Thanks ever so much captain,I enjoy the walks anyway,but I love it when I go up the hills with the scenes on my camera to match up,when I find the spot,and look at the camera screen and see the characters stood exactly where I am stood,I feel a real connection to the show and the people in it.When I was sat at the bench having a coffee I got talking to a local,about 70 yrs old who lives on one of the lanes up the hill,he said he goes for a walk every day with his two mates and they often call at the White Horse or Butchers after a walk,he said the locals call them Foggy,Compo and Clegg.He takes it for granted living there and doing that,but I said to him,to anyone from the city,or abroad,especially who loves the show,he is living the show and is so lucky.
 
I think Hirst Lane must of been Alan Bell's choice of filming locations, one day I will go though every episode and count how many times it has been used,but I would think in at least 50% of all episodes had some filming here

It seems its in almost every episode doesn't it Terry,anyone who visited would recognise it,it would feel like being on the set of a show,thats how I feel.
On page 28 of Alan Bells book he describes finding this location,the junction of paths and hill,and how he loved it,and as we know he would keep going back to it throughout the entire series.

Watched swan man today. Just saying.
 
Nice photos Pete thank you again for posting them .One thing I noticed is the state of the road at the School at Holme Tom is probably safer on the wall . I think Truly, Cleggy and Billy would be visiting the National Accident Helpline . "We were walking along a road just filming a well known Comedy when we were suddenly afflicted by synchronised tripping , two of us were then only capable of filming scenes in the house and the other, Billy , who'd damaged his wrist, was only able to fire arrows to hit their intended target which was completely in contrast to the script. "

Thanks captain.I didn't even notice the state of the road to be honest,I was more concerned that the builders were there and had parked in front of the school,I especially went to take the photo when I knew it was the school holiday as I didn't want to stand there taking a photo if there were schoolchildren in the yard,but it looks like the builders came,there were several vans,thanks again:)

I love to see how things have changed over the years,and these town photos are much better for that.When I take a photo if I can I like to stand in the same place where the film crew would have stood,in the countryside to find the exact place I often look for rocks and the shapes of tree branches,neither of which change much,for this one I used the house windows,on the left there are two windows,then a gap and slightly lower four more windows,with a small gap after the first two,and underneath the railing is a sloping concrete section,you can see how they have removed the black railing and put up a stone wall.
On my recent walk when I found the ruins of Hade village,the farm next to it where they got chased by a dog in Deviations with Davenport is now a lumberjacks,its miles from anywhere and nothing else is near,you would have to go out of your way and trek to it,yet instead of putting up a fence they built a beautiful,long,dry stone wall all the way along,I was very impressed by that.

I used to live close to a school in Yorkshire, and every holiday the builders would be there for one reason or another,maybe try going at the weekend in term time
 
Enjoying your pics, thanks Pete! As you mentioned they make great then and now comparisons. One day I would like to stand in some of those spots to see it in person.
