BADFINGER - BABY BLUE.
Very sad story behind this band. Absolutely brilliant musicians who deserved much, much more respect than the so called music business gave them.

I created and uploaded this video to YouTube over ten years ago now. This song, among the most popular folk songs in Ireland, covered by countless artists was actually written by Staffordshire couple Phil and June Colclough after holidaying in the southwest of Ireland.

Forty five years ago today The Pretenders seminal debut album 'Pretenders' was released. I still have the cassette which amazingly still plays.

The guitarist James, and bass guitarist Pete both died of Heroin (James Honeyman Scott) and Cocaine (Pete Farndon) overdose I believe. Not together but separately. Absolutely tragic. They were very influential players especially James. As Lemmy said just one go with Heroin can be enough. It has killed too many. It's, as far as I know, the only drug that has a massive chance of switching your lights off. Others can like Cocaine but rarely but Heroin is a definite killer.

Seemingly a comedy song, but Don Estelle’s singing is superb.

Apparently, Kate Garner is the daughter of Chas Hodges from Chas & Dave.
I had to double check. Wow you learn something new everyday. It needs not be said but Chaz And Dave (Not my thing really) are top level musicians. I do enjoy a few songs though. My brother is a semi professional bass player/musician and he was saying listen to Dave from Chaz and Dave bass playing and I did. Absolutely top top class bass player along with Chaz flawless piano playing. You actually had to be able to do it in the Pub Rock circuit.

Great live performance

Of note to those who remember a guitar effects device from the 80s that has been reissued. A fun watch.

A way to get the sound of the band Boston without a mountain of vacuum tube amplifiers and speakers.

Warning!! I've not watched this so not sure if the lyrics have been altered because there are swear words in it but given this is about the persecution of new age travellers. I guess its expected given its a song from their perspective , but if you are offended then please don't listen to this . I love this song not only because of the music but its a powerful statement about what those groups of travellers faced and probably face today.

I have loved Badfinger for many years. Probably ingrained in my brain from the early 70’s before punk came along and took me away, along with T Rex, Sweet, Glitter Band and Mott The Hoople etc.
There’s a great documentary about them but if any band deserves a biopic to tell the truth it’s them.

From 1948: "On a Slow Boat to China"- Kay Kyser Orchestra, Vocals by Harry Babbitt and Gloria Wood.

I've had this song on heavy rotation for the past month. Gloria Wood has the jazzy, flashy vocal, but it's beautifully set up with Harry Babbitt's smooth lead in.
