What person was mentioned 15 times in a single episode, yet we never saw the person?
 
If this was Roy Clarke's other show Open All Hours it would be easy i.e any character Arkwright is trying to gossip about to Granville wondered if it was Nora when she was in Australia and Stella was living in her house?

I like that guess, but it's not the one I was thinking of. Mine is a person - not a Yorkshire God. Incidentally, you were right; Earnshaw was mentioned 24 times.
 
Time for a hint. This name was said in a post-Compo episode. It is also the only episode the name is ever mentioned.
