    Series One (1973) Episode Reviews

I always turn my paper entirely on its side, the top facing to the right to prevent that. My daughter and I are both lefthanded and do a lot of fine detail sewing and needlework, but I can slice bread and she can't. If you are left-handed and right eyed or have been forced to compensate for...

    Series Two (1975) Episode Reviews

I have to agree with Barry, the character shift was too far out of what we expected, and not sustainable. As fabulous of characters Roy created to be presented to the actors, I have to credit the actors themselves for the brilliant durability they gave them. I think in this episode, if I am...

    PBS Chicago LotSW Advert

Not too many decades David, I think I'm about three years older than you, but that's how I remember it too. Unfortunately, I didn't cross paths with LOTSW till later, in my 30's. Growing up I wasn't allowed to watch TV in the afternoon except Saturday and that of course was Godzilla, Gamera, and...

    PBS Chicago LotSW Advert

I grew up across the river in St. Louis, but at the time the main British feature on PBS was Fawlty Towers. Any idea what year this was? I am trying to figure out when LOTSW started airing in America, it probably depends which affiliate station you had. Its a good add. The voice over has the...

    Series Two (1975) Episode Reviews

David, I'm sorry I haven't had the chance earlier to say these reviews are absolutely wonderful! I really enjoy them. I especially appreciate the inclusion of historical and cultural background. I originally thought the "Nice one Cyril" was a mistake in the voice over or live recording that...

    Easy Picture Question

Is it "who made a bit of a splash in Wales then", when they have rented the car?

    Open All Hours Cafe

From what I understand exterior shots were on location and, except for the occasional exception, interior shots were done in studio. I think the time board is probably a prop with a lot less attention to detail than we like to imagine. I doubt the prop wrangler in the studio had any clue that...

IMPORTANT DECISION FOR OUR MEMBERS TO MAKE

Small but heartfelt donation on its way. To be honest, such a safe place where we can all share something we enjoy, and not have to fear that someone is going to explode with political vitriol or be inundated with advertisement is worth a lot. Thanks to everyone that this is the site it is.

    Ten Episodes only

It's very interesting how, despite all having different tastes, and backgrounds, and so forth, many of the same episodes keep coming up in our lists. I don't know if that says something about us, or something about the show, but I'm wondering what the most frequently chosen episode will turn out...

    Nora's Statement Puzzled Me

While it might be Fawlty Tower's logic (She was looking at you but talking to me), maybe Nora meant any door and was using the word "the" generically. Or maybe she meant when anyone was at the door, and she opened it in answering.

    Ten Episodes only

    1. All Mod Con (my favorite episode) 2. Hail Smiling Morn or Thereabouts 3. Forked Lightning (The "person" conversation is an all-time favorite moment) 4. The Kink in Foggy's Niblick 5. Flower Power Cut 6. In the Service of Humanity 7. Adopted by a Stray (The first episode I ever saw) 8. The...

    A chatty...happy Wally Batty ???????

I may have it mixed up with another episode, but was that one of the times one of his pigeons won a competition? Wally perhaps had hidden depths; he was really excited about yodeling once as well, and he participated in things like the Bullocks and dressing up as a cowboy.

    Parents Question

What about grandparents? Clegg's grandmother believed really nice people had no legs.

The deepest, highest, longest canal tunnel in Britain

Considering my jr. high (and the subsequent high school) were entirely run by defunct hippies we might have done worse than have Seymour at the helm. I think he would have been appalled by the lack of discipline though. It was my primary years they were still allowed to strike a student here and...

    Parents Question

Of course, Howard was an orphan, so we won't hear about his parents. ;)

    What were they thinking of!

That is a problem. Perhaps we could install a goat or two on the roof to eat the moss. Just kidding of course, but it sounds like the hyper-ecological minded reasoning that probably led to the moss being left on the roof in the first place; We wouldn't want to deprive the birds of their handy...

    What were they thinking of!

I think here they would use a "cherry picker" which is a small crane with a bucket at the top for a man to stand in and work from at a height, they also use them to repair telephone lines. It would take one machine and two men and a platoon of orange safety cones.

The deepest, highest, longest canal tunnel in Britain

I agree Adanor, there is a lot more to a balanced education than passing standardized tests. In the 70's there were a lot of alternative private schools popping up and I was fortunate to go to one that allowed a lot of unconventional learning by doing and significant encouragement towards...

    The World According to...... LOTSW

Another really good question! I am not much help Gothic, but I think "Dracualawaite" had something to do with inventing the vacuum cleaner and is in the episode where Clegg breaks his leg riding his bike downhill with Alvin and Billy. Wstol got my favorite! there is a great story about the...
