Lets see your cars

Barry, the Metro was registered in Swasea, WN. Back then reg No's told you where they were registered, unlike today's No plates.
Yes I always remember this, they were linked to local DVLA offices (before they were all closed down) weren't they.

Joking aside do you always feel vulnerable when you're driving 'edie' as I don't imagine it'd fare to well if someone hit it :(

Thought I'd share a pic of my Mum's first car and a short tale of her driving . She was well in double figures when she finally passed her test . She worked for a well known bakery company and the owner paid for her lessons and car as he wanted her to be their first area manager , on cost alone I think he regretted it.

There were many tales but her inaugural drive involved taking my dad to the coast specifically a place called Seaton Sluice . When you reach the village you need to negotiate a large roundabout to either take first exit to get to the Astley Arms pub , the second exit to get to the Kings Arms or third to get to the Melton Constable mum chose .................. none . She could get off the roundabout and went round and round much to my dad's annoyance as he could visualise a cool pint of Newcastle Exhibition on the bar . After several circuits and failed attempts she finally got off on ...... exit 4 the road she'd come down on , the dream of a cool beer were up in smoke and they returned home :)

My second car, complete with go faster badges and poverty spec foglamps pictured here at the Lisdoonvarna folk festival, early 80's. It was originally a 1.1 but myself and my dad swapped it out for a 1,3 but still couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I traded it in for a Hillman Avenger which was fine until my brother crashed into me, on the day of his wedding actually so he got away with that one!

My Second Escort it was 2nd hand, this was coming into new tech as I had a carphone fitted, also the dealer who we bought it from agreed at at good price to fit a XR3 genuine spoiler on boot lid, then spray it white, we then discovered the tailgate would not stay open due to the extra weight, so a new uprated set of tailgate struts had to be fitted.

My first car was one of these, I don't have a picture of mine, a Ford Prefect, 3 speed with reverse where normally first gear would be, I had a few near misses at junctions until I got used to it, 0-60 was 3 weeks but it was transport, had it for about a year, then one day no matter what it would not start, so it got scrapped.

I had a Fiat X/19 same as pictured here. It was far from new when I bought it but I loved her very much, but with every breakdown and every repair bill, the romance started to wear thin until finally I'd had enough and traded her in for a newer model. I had photos of her but I burned them all, it was too painful..:25:

I too had a brief romance with an Italian model with similar luck! I got this a couple of years back, just scraped the underside of the front bumper in Sainsburys car park and had to claim on the insurance as the repair bill so so crazy! I made the decision I'm now too old for sports cars and grown up and sold it earlier this year. I now enjoy driving my Volvo more than I ever did driving this!IMG_2059 3 Large.jpeg

I bought one of these for £20, body was good but I knew the engine was shot, did the engine and gear selector rods, it was 3 speed column change, added windows to the side and seats in the back and it was great transport for the kids and a large dog, kept it for a few years and it earnt it's keep.
