Why were characters deaths not really mentioned

I agree that mentioning passing and funerals would go against the light hearted humour of the show. However, Compo's passing was done with amazing humour and dignity.

I feel the brief mentions of a passing reflects reality as people don't dwell on it when dealing with day to day actions (and antics). It is as thougth it is assumed the characters have had deeper conversations bewteen the series which we don't see.
 
I watched Crums yesterday about a year after Wally had died, and I did see a picture of Wally on Nora's Mantlepiece
