To the new members

To the new members, one of which is me, just, I wish to say Happy New Year to you all and hope that you join in the chat on here and help to raise the spirits of members like me who, being very handicapped, crave for friends to talk to. You must have things to tell us, hobbies, pets, likes & dislikes. I am an old octogenarian who is a bit, no, a lot barmy. Did you see that? I put old octogenarian, I have yet to meet a young octogenarian. That's me, I talk utter rubbish but the members here take pity on me and reply. Their friendship means so much to me as I'm sure it will to you if you join in and give us a chance to welcome you. Pop in and say 'Hello'.... I joined in May and look forward each day to logging in and posting something to try and make everyone smile. Come on, log in and say 'Happy New Year'.

Call me a miserable sod if you like but I'm really only here for the LOTSW stuff. I like the trivia, the quizzes and information about locations, characters and the actors that play them. I'm not that interested in members personal lives or seeing pictures of their pets ect. It's getting too much like Facebook.

I do not subscribe to Twitter, Facebook or any of that ilk( What's an ilk ?) I do though think you are being a bit previous in declaring against members personal lives etc , You don't even know us We might grow on you !! We have had some discussions on various matters and kept them going for ages !Not all about Summer Wine ,either ! So long as we kept politics and heavy duty religion away ,almost anything went !

Roger I genuinely agree with your points and I'm the same I come on here to mainly look at LOTSW trivia etc (which you are the oracle of btw!) and the other stuff doesn't bother me.

However Peri does also make and equally valid point, and it is always under the 'chat about anything other....' section so members can choose what to view.

I'm going to be grumpy too and say I got bored very quickly with the A-Z LOTSW thread and find it very repetitive and pointless. However it's the most popular thread on here by a country mile and it keeps members coming back, so each to their own.

I'm sure we all want this site to flourish and that will only happen with as many posters as possible in different threads.

Please Peri keep posting as you see fit and Roger please continue to be the 'go to' brain for all trivia etc. I know Peri and I share a love of cricket so may I offer a simile. I hate 20/20 cricket with a passion and never watch it, but I know it's essential to keep the sport I love alive, and I'm sure we all share a love of LOTSW. See I'm a wannabe Wordsworth when I've been on the NYE fizz!!!!

Apart from Terry I am a major "poster". My score could have been loads more but I was "hacked "in 2012and lost a lot of posts. I will like you say keep posting as I see fit (same as you've told Peri).To answer you, re the A-Z it is difficult not to repeat at times but we try to mix it up and I am always on the lookout for different bits Re cricket, I am an avid fan and would prefer Tests but I read today that they are talking of cutting the length of Tests.In this life with things everchanging it is comforting to have consistency. I am so impressed Peri I love comedy , I would like to have had a go at writing comedy in some capacity but the site is as close as I will get , so like you I like to go off on a tangent from perhaps the true purpose of the site . If I see the opportunity to try and write something humorous I will , hopefully some things work, I am sure a lot doesn't and is annoying but like you I just try to raise the odd smile in what are such adverse times so I hope you keep posting . Equally Roger you know how much I admire your knowledge of the show hence the reference to auditioning for Mastermind so I do hope you continue to impart that knowledge when the quiz threads appear . I hope there is room for all .

Yesterday I was searching the net to try to find out my ex-partners exact family connection with Will Hay. I found his obituary, he died ten years ago, and there, in black and white [I told you I was old] were some ad photos. Here they are. I'm the good looking one.

I am not a fan of 20/20 cricket either. What do you think about ODI cricket? It does have more interest than 20/20 which is just bash and hope. A bit like my marriage really, my wife bashes me and hopes that I will acquiesce to her demands. [WOW, get a load of that word, ACQUIESCE. I didn't think I knew words like that.]
Must have a tablet and a lie-down after that. It's given me a touch of the vapours.

Peri , thank you for posting those great black and white photos, just wondering where you performed . I don't think you are old enough to have been part of Music Hall in its heyday but that's another thing I am passionate about, read several books about it . I don't have any pictures on my walls but I would make an exception for some old billing material because it's a subject in itself, how each artist demanded that the higher up the bill they were the bigger the lettering . I'd love to know if you played any theatres , another passion, I have been on lots of coach excursions in recent years and if there is a Theatre at the Destination I always try to blag a look around especially if its one Frank Matcham has architected .

I tried to get into the huge Teatro in Alicante earlier this year walked right around and all doors were locked so ended up at the Stage Door . There was an intercom for the artists to gain entrance so in for a penny in for a pound I pressed the button and from my limited Spanish asked "Habla usted Ingles Por Favor [do you speak English Please] " the answer came back a resounding " No " and that was that.
