The Prisoner Convention

I'm visiting Portmerion this weekend and by chance The Prisoner 40th Annual Convention is on at the same time. Reminds me a lot of the 50th celebrations. They're all dressed up, re-enacting various scenes around the village and Patrick McGoohan's daughter is here doing a Q&A. I asked how many were here and I was told it was in the hundreds and has been sold out people are here from all over the world. I never knew it had such a cult following, I've never seen it before but I may watch a few episodes out of curiosity now. Makes me think if a short series from 1967 can garner this sort of following, what a properly co-ordinated Summer Wine convention could achieve.....

It must have been 1981 when we visited, just after the hotel fire, there was hardly a soul about

It's a thought provoking and curious little number with episodes that ranged from compelling watching what the blood and stomach pills was that? Brian Wilde of course had a very different Prisoner to escort in his other well known guise!

Did think of you when I saw The Village Players doing the reenactment, it was rather wooden. It needed mashibinbin Hitchcocks direction :D
 
Huge fan almost in the realms of my love of LOTSW. I watch it at any opportunity it was so iconic and ground breaking read books about it trying to find out what it was really all about but still a trifle confused . I have yet to make the pilgrimage from the Toon there but determined to get there whilst I can .

If you take the motorhome you can camp for £55 which includes free entry for 2 people which normally costs £20 each. Spotless site and you can access the village when the tourists have left which is a surreal experience. I’d definitely recommend it !
 
£20 for all or Senior Concession ? If I turn up in a Blazer with white markings and yachting shoes any chance of a further reduction :) Whatever it is I'd pay it anyway to see that iconic place assume there is some sort of souvenir shop?

Not sure if there's any concessions, I think if you book into the hotel or one of the self catering buildings in the village then entry is included. Yes there's quite a few shops, one specifically devoted to The Prisoner quite a bit of stuff in there. I've googled the appreciation society which are called Six Of One, I'm guessing it's something to do with the series.


The village itself it is very quirky, although a few of the buildings could do with a new coat of paint. Definitely enjoyed the visit, the entire site is around 70 acres so a bit smaller than I was expecting.
