The match box

Can anyone tell me, whats actually in the match box that Compo often shows to people. Its always been something ive wondered about but assumed that we have to just guess for ourselves. I would like to know if there is an episode where the contents is revealed.

This is/was in fact pure fiction. Compo was a fictional
character, and any matchbox he might have has is
also fiction. Just a stage prop. Nothing really there.

I wonder if Compo in deep contemplation sat there and wondered will a matchbox hold my clothes [ sure the holes would fit but the scant material that remained in his jacket/trousers/shirt.............maybe not]

Let me have a go.

It was never revealed what was in the matchbox, though Compo was seen feeding it.

I think the reason we were never told what was in the box was to make it funnier. It's far more entertaining guessing what's in the box than actually knowing. We'd probably be disappointed once we knew.

All we know is it's something repulsive.

In the 1992 book of Last of the Summer Wine - A Country Companion, there are some suggestions what could be in the box.
