In September Heath and I were going up to Lincolnshire to visit family,so I suggested we go to Holmfirth first of all.
It was our second visit, and we booked 2 nights at the old bridge Inn,a bit expensive but very central.
I enjoyed visiting Daisy Lane books, the owner is a real character, and I bought half a dozen books.
We then popped in to the Shoulder of Mutton, just behind the Cafe and had a few drinks, the music was mostly sixties and seventies Soul and Motown, and it was so relaxing, before we knew it was 3pm and time to check in.
In the evening we went to the Raj,had a lovely meal, and chat with one of the owners, telling us about the terrible roadworks for the past year+.
After that we had a drink in the Elephant and Castle and took a couple of night pics of Compo and Nora’s little street.
The Town is thriving, and there are lots of interesting shops, restaurants and bars.
The hotel is very nice and the breakfast,as we were to find out,was superb.
The next day we went to the Church at Upperthong, the climb felt steeper, and I felt quite sombre, despite the sunshine.
I didn’t want to take pictures of the graves, somehow it felt intrusive, different from the way I felt the first time, which I think is a reflection of me getting older.
Heath bought a few things in the gift shop while I took some pictures at Compo and Nora’s and of the stream and then we visited the Museum.
In the evening we had a meal in a lively Country and Western bar, something totally different and a great hour or so,before going back to the hotel for a couple of drinks.
Such a nice couple of days, not going far,but totally relaxing.
We also squeezed in another trip 30th December 2025,just the one night at the bridge Inn,on the way back from a Christmas stay with family in Lincolnshire.
