Saw this on the interwebs and wondered if anyone on here was in Scarborough 1972 / 1973 time frame. Maybe you are in the video!
Skimmed through it but not watched the whole thing yet.
I'll be honest, the two LOTSW episodes are a better advert for Scarborough, than the this video - but I'd still go, even now, if someone else wanted to go.
I went last week !!! The town centre is like any other , the South Bay beach is well Yorkshire's answer to mini Blackpool ,big wheel ,slot machines didn't see any kiss me quick hats , plenty of families on the beach . My view was somewhat tainted by the fact that the funicular was out of order, working that morning , closed that afternoon so had to walk down and back up the cliff .
How did I know it was working in the morning you may ask because I passed some rather mature people who were having to try their best to walk back up despite having bought return tickets for the funicular earlier in the day . I felt so sorry for those people because it was a really hot day and they were really quite infirm I even passed a man pushing his wife up in her wheelchair .
The attraction for me was the Harbour Bar 50's Ice Cream parlour which is the star of the otherwise not great show. If I'd been able to use the Funicular without having to walk up back to the town I would have walked along to the esplanade which seems to echo the height of Scarborough's fame Max Jaffa concerts et al . Would I go back ? Not in a hurry to do so , highly unlikely.
