do you lads and lasses across the pond have a remembrance day ? i'm sure you do. I was at the supermarket...grocery store...this morning and was so pleased to see 3 out of 4 people wearing a poppy. its a silent respectful thing, seeing poppies worn by children and placed on baby buggies warmed me.....we have a friend who is belurussian and lives in Mogilev close to the ukranian border where the 1986 Chernobyl disaster happened...she brings children here to give them relief from the radioactive climate they must endure..anyway I digress....what I meant to say was that when she came to stay with us this time last year she was totally puzzled re the poppies and remembrance programmes on tv.

I always buy a wrist band too now, the kids like wearing them and I seem to be collecting them.

Not so much anymore. I do know that every year at this time all the
folks on Have I Got News For You are wearing poppies, but there is
damned little remembrance in the US any more. Everyone is way too busy
texting and tweeting to care about anybody else. There are a
few parades, but not so crowded as once was.

Do not overlook the fact that those wars did not touch us near as much
as they touched you. We sent guys over there, but were rarely
touched over here.

But do you not make quite a big thing of Veteran's day?

Well, our gym will be open. Our trash will be picked up. Our
recycling will go. Just our mail will be off a day. So, not
such a big thing as it once was. Believe there may have been
a parade or two back on the weekend. But not the big
thing it once was. As an Air Force vet, it is a bit of a
downer tho. Old wars are a bit out of favor here. (We
do damned all for those who fought in the modern wars.)

Downtown Indianapolis there is a parade and ceremony. It is quite nice. I enjoy celebrating and seeing our Veterans.

:)

Yes, it's Veteran's Day over here on this side of the pond. It's a federal holiday, so I have the day off. There are lots of ceremonies to honor all military veterans.
