Missed Chance

Whilst watching Pate and Chips this morning. I thought how Roy missed a chance to bring Chips kids into the show as they got older. A new generation of Simmonites . Just a thought
I have often thought this - Chip and Connie could have visited at anytime. In those days I don't think they surveyed audiences like they do now to gauge reactions and if a character is worth keeping in a show - so there wasn't anything to stop them returning. Don't forget in Coronation Street Jack and Sally went to do their homework one day and weren't seen again for many years!

Wasn't Norah given more of a role on the show due to how popular she was? Thought I heard that somewhere after the pilot test.

I agree with you Amos, would have been nice to of seen Chip, Connie and crew return. Margaret Nolan certainly was popular also being in James Bond's Goldfinger and some Carry On movies. We got to see Big Malcolm, Gordon and his mom several times, plus Tom.

Typing this I realized we saw much more of Compo's extended family than the other characters families. We do see a lot of the Pegden's immediate family including Seymour and Ros. I imagine Barry was local but don't recall seeing much of his side of the family. Edie did not have his mom round for tea.

Yes, she was. Can't remember where I read it, though.

I don't recall having seen any of Barry's family!

I would seriously have considered having Tony Haygarth and/or Philip Jackson (Chip and Gordon) brought back in the post-Compo years.

After watching "The changing face of rural Blamire" again I think that Roy missed a trick by not using the "infamous" Oswald Green....the high powered executive in charge of the "SHINYGLOW EMPIRE" !!!.
I thought he was absolutely amazing !!......his manic attitude and his patter was in my very humble opinion...comedy gold.
The sketch in his office was absolutely first class......he would have been a wonderful addition to our show !!!.
X!
