Just to mention without the power of the internet how on earth would any of this information come to light, there's little or no chance you would ever have hunted this down . The internet and Social Media often and deservedly gets a bad press but this sort of usage offers nothing but a positive reaction :)
 
First Thames Television colour programme shown 17 Nov 1969.

ITV colour strike 13 Nov 1970 -* Feb 1971.

So a very good chance your episode is in colour.

Now to find out if it still exists...
 
You are absolutely right, Captain. This 'mystery' has been bugging me for decades; without the internet, I would probably never have found the answer. Big thanks to maltrab, whose original suggestion led me to a similar website which contained much of the info I was looking for. It would be fantastic if the episodes survive, but I doubt it somehow.
