I seem to remember in both episodes the wives were called Lydia, (as mentioned in the dialogue) so it might have been the same character, just with different actors.

Well done John, it was odd as I was watching watching Gordon's wedding and I was trying to place him before the penny dropped it was Chuffer, what a hard life he led
