In my family, we don't exchange gifts, but my niece and her daughters make treats for everyone, just as she and her mother did, and her mother and grandmother before her. So we're not only given something good to eat, we're participating in an historical tradition.

Apparently the tradition of New Year in Germany dictates that this wonderful short film must be watched at all cost . It is a masterclass of comedy delivered by Freddie Frinton the long suffering screen husband of our Edie in meet the wife . I thought some members may wish to watch it .

I experienced this phenomenon on my year abroad to Germany whilst at university. It is an incredibly firm tradition that all members of the family enjoyed and just saying 'the same procedure every year' to each each other there brings convulsions of laughter akin to our finest comedies. Mr Bean is also intensely popular there showing the German's love for slapstick.
