In some of the Christmas episodes ie A Tale of Two Sweaters you occasionally see the more human side of her, ie she gives Smiler & Tom dinner. A good one I think Is Jeremy Quite Safe where she's panicking that there may be money in a safe she has. She is a proper skin-flint as we say in the UK

Have you ever seen Open All Hours? Correct me if I am wrong to the more knowledgable members here, but Aunty Wainwright was modeled after Arkwright, the shopkeeper in the 70's comedy Open All Hours (another Roy Clarke show). In case you never watched it, you might appreciate Aunty Wainwright more to see the origin of the character.

Auntie openly admits her one true love is money, her aim in life is to make as much as possible, she does invest some of it, she pointed out in one episode she owns most of the properties in a certain road. If you are daft enough to even stand outside her shop then you are fair game into being sold something, going inside is fatal, don't even think of asking for a refund, even if the item is defective, consumer law does not apply, remember Truly being sold a duff lawnmower, she explained it was good except for 1 hour a week.
