If only. My friend was charged nearly 3 pounds for a coffee in one of the major chains recently.Cup of coffee for 7p. Happy Days.

Since tax issues a lot of people have rebelled against Costa[Whitbread] and Starbucks and are opting for independent coffee shops . I have found coffee is as good and you get great service [shout out for Cafe Le Vie , Saville Row , Newcastle] . On Thursday I was meeting someone for a beer and had just enough time to go to an independent Cafe in Pink Lane Newcastle [I only mention the location because a few months back they hit the headlines certainly in the local press and indeed in some national papers after their street sign was badly damaged by employees from the Greggs shop next door it was seen as David and Goliath confrontation] .
I ordered my coffee and waited and waited no coffee showed up so I ended going back to the counter to be told apologies but we forgot about you . Considering I am 6ft 3ins and probably at least an ounce of 17 stone wearing a loud checked shirt I have to say I was totally dismayed . To be fair they refunded my cash with a smile unfortunately they have dispensed with the street sign !
