Aren't councils silly!

So who is Tony Hancock and why is his address so well known?

Tony Hancock was a top English Comedian and comedic actor whose show Hancock's half hour was one of the formative shows on British TV , it also appeared on radio and was a must listen event when it was broadcast. His sidekick for many of the shows was the great Sid James who you may know from the Carry on films , Kenneth Williams from those great films appeared alongside Hancock in his shows . His fictional address is announced is some episodes of the show , its a while since I watched any of the TV shows cannot recall if his "house" has the number on and the street sign is shown . The wikipedia page about him is quite comprehensive if you wish to read about him further , hope this brief summary helps.

We'll I've never been on a train at all, in my whole 44 year existence.
Here in the States, passenger service is rare, unless you want to travel via Amtrak, with its limited destinations. Back in 1948, though, my mother and I traveled from Corning, NY to Herkimer, NY via the Erie railroad. I wish I remembered more about it, but I was only four years old. My main memory is feeling grubby upon arrival. Apparently the engine wasn't fueled with anthracite coal.

My next rail journey was from London to Harrogate, about 30 years ago.

I try to plan travel to include heritage railways. They're the high point in any trip.
