Amazon and Prime

I stopped using prime some while back as often the delivery was either missed or to late in the day to be any use, I also started to shop around more and often found I could buy cheaper elsewhere.
So Friday night I go online to buy a cheap toaster, Amazon where doing a special offer on one with good reviews and for £21 it was worth a punt, it stated free delivery, so I order it, then have to duck and dive not to sign up for Prime, then I had to duck and dive even more to get past a 7 day one time payment for prime, eventually I got to the checkout section, which said it was £4.49p delivery, I then had to tick other boxes to find the free delivery, which claimed it would not be delivered until the 27th Nov, but if I clicked the prime button I could get it today, no thanks the 27th will be fine, Yes you guessed it coming today.
I think this Prime business is earning them more money than profit on the sales

We have Prime mainly for the Amazon stick, it means I don't have to watch his rubbish on my tv.

They rinsed me of 1 months Prime payment with the same scam a few months ago, you really have to have eyes like a hawk not to inadvertently sign up for Prime. Trading Standards should do something about it....

Prime works for me started when I was working and the chief source of my music was originally CD based and I wanted them and other items expediently . Since that my use for music is not as great I stream most things through Spotify , my collection is in storage with all CD music downloaded onto a Cocktail Audio player . Whilst I have dabbled with Prime Video I am not that impressed with the content and Prime Music whilst I still have the free portion I chose Spotify to stream. I have seen the odd game of football and watched the odd film , watched the grand tour but to be honest the three amigos began to grate on me and whilst the first few episodes were ok the rest were just Top Gear rebadged and became dull and stale I was glad Amazon pulled the plug.

What's left has been the ability to get things I need expediently , particularly for my Mum who is in a Care Home and I can get things she needs in the current climate expediently given the Home has been closed for visitors since the dreaded Pandemic hit . It is very much what you are comfortable with , for me at less than £2 a week membership its worth it .

The thing I worked out Captain is it is easy to get sucked into the Prime ideology, well I am paying for it,so I might as well go to Amazon for it, a one stop online shop for almost everything, I am guilty of that,
When they messed up a couple of important deliveries and their CS could not care a less, I started to look around, sites like ebay, only to find I could buy 90% of what I normally bought from Amazon cheaper with free delivery, often delivered within 2 days, so I am saving even more money by not paying for Prime and buying elsewhere

I have looked at other retailers and I do use for certain things but things like books and DVD I go to Amazon , the latter after the debacle I had with Zavvi and LOTSW box set a year or so ago which I was buying for someone at that bargain never to be beaten , sorry never to be offered , price . As I say for me it works but understand why people don't wish to use it

In the UK I think most of us would prefer to do that sadly because of Covid a lot of our stores have been closed long term for a second time [a month this time] so a lot of us have been forced into online shopping . Its so nice to go into the City Centre and as you say Adanor browse in many stores, make your purchases and socialise over a cup of coffee or lunch/tea. At the moment that is not possible until next week in the context of shopping . With huge doubts over hospitality until 11.30 today but likely to be negative news , the socialising over coffee etc seems a distant dream. :(

Sorry to hear that you're only limited to on-line shopping. Maybe things will improve later on and the stores will be able to open and you'll be able to shop and stop for a cup of coffee.

Well I am in a Tier 3 area so all Hospitality is closed [well assuming the vote in Parliament goes through Monday ] however, all shops are allowed to open .Some may choose not to but with only a few weeks to Christmas I imagine it will be mobbed all of which increases the risk of virus spread however careful the shops are .There any number of people who may be asymptomatic and therefore could unknowingly spread the virus . There is a promise of mass testing to any tier 3 area who wishes to utilise it but if all areas wish to will there be the resources to undertake it ? So it could be online shopping and home made beverages for many.

Heck, very interesting letter Captain but I only got as far as the word 'asymptomatic'. When I find out what that means I'll read the rest. Have you got any ideas what it means Dick? :39:

By the way , have you seen the new ad from amazon for showing the Rugby ? They show rugby players using an Amazon parcel to practice around the warehouse. That beggars two questions , Is that how we get damaged parcels delivered ?and How much packaging is in the parcels that are being used ?:confused2::eyesroll:

I refuse to pay for Prime. Instead, I'll save items in my cart until the total price is over the threshold for free shipping. That has the added advantage of giving me time to consider whether or not I really want/need the item. Some end up deleted from the cart rather than purchased.

I still prefer to go to an actual store, present an actual card or cash, and walk out with a purchase. So refreshing!
I will shop in a physical store if it is no further than five miles from my home, eliminating most of the retail in this region, which is at least fifteen miles from here, and if I know that they have exactly the item I want currently in stock. I hate shopping, and I can do the necessary search and comparison steps much more efficiently online, getting through the entire ugly chore much more quickly.
