In the series when Ivy shouted at the lads to sit down they used to reply by singing.

There'll be a welcome in the hillside. What is the origin of this song.I think it is an actual song. Can anyone help

Far away a voice is calling,
Bells from memory do chime
Come home again, come home again,
They call through the oceans of time.
2. Well keep a welcome in the hillside.
Well keep a welcome in the Vales
This land you knew will still be singing
When you come home again to Wales.

3. This land of song will keep a welcome
And with a love that never fails,
Well kiss away each hour of hiraeth
When you come home again to Wales.

"Thomas Henry Morgan (1898-1957), composed the music to 'We'll Keep a Welcome' (sold to Mai Jones who published it in 1943) was born in Merthyr Vale, 8 Station Terrace, "

"A PLAQUE marking the home of Newport musician and composer, Mai Jones, was unveiled at a special ceremony last week.
Mrs Jones worked as a variety producer for the BBC based in Cardiff and wrote the well-known song 'We'll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside' with Lyn Joshua, for BBC Radio's hit variety show Welsh Rarebit in 1940."

So, a Welsh song but relatively modern. Does not tend to feature in the singing at Wales Rugby home matches - not a rugby standard. One complaint about it I heard long ago is that it is a Monmouth song and Monmouth is only just Wales, if that.
