In the VHS video of series 1, in the episode Pate and Chips, I seem to recall that at one stage Compo meets up with the lady of the manor house in the private quarters and has a chat with her, any member here recall that scene, or is it time I enquired about local care homes
 
While I was about to look it up, I couldn't help think Terry was right, and I could imagine such a scene - but it's not in the book, and I've never seen it on the 1993 VHS Series One double video.

Either way, it would have made a great little scene.

Can you recall any details of the scene?
 
Are you sure you are not thinking of Keeping up Appearances ? I believe that Hyacinth met with the owner of a stately home while she was trying to avoid Onslow and crew. Hyacinth had confused the owner with the gardening help!

If not, then your version does sound interesting and would like to see a copy of the scene.
 
The only time I recall Compo meeting a landlady is in First of the Summer Wine. Compo asks for 2 bottles of pale ale to take away and she says, ask your mother if she left something in here last time she was in, Compo said that'll be me father we haven't seen him for years.

I thought it was a brief scene after the trio had walked the children, Blamire and Cleggy are back in the stately home when the guide hears someone at the door of the private quarters, and he lets Compo out holding the dog, if the scene was cut it would explain how Compo ended up at that door
 
I don't remember ever seen that but it could easily been cut out, theres a few scenes I remember but have since been cut.
 
I've just watched it, it could be argued that if the previous scene was Compo chatting to the lady then it wouldn't be so funny when Compo unexpectedly appears from the door, so I'm none the wiser....
 
The BBC Video release of Pate and Chips had its original opening and closing titles removed.

On YouTube there is a version of Pate and Chips with the original credits - alas no credit for an actress who could have played the lady of the manor :confused:.
 
Perhaps they removed the bit with Compo and lady of the house to make room for another commercial... :frown2:

The sad thing is there is wstol, when did you last see losw on the main BBC channels, you don't, they have pumped the show out for years on the UKTV brand channels which is full of adverts and episodes are edited from the originals, who owns all these channels the BBC, if you want to watch the show advert free you can on Britbox which is part owned by the BBC and a subscription service, the best way to view them if to buy the box set which has been as low as £49 at times and amazing value for around 369 hours of viewing time

When you say edited do you mean they truncate the episodes to fit in the adverts? I thought they were full episodes but just extended to 40mins to cover the time for the ads?
 
It is really challenging to watch the episodes in their original format, I have been watching them online as it's quicker than faffing around with the DVD's which aren't in strict order, not labeled and the series listing is wrong (whoever was responsible for the full DVD boxset wants sacking!). The episodes online are recorded from UKTV so clearly are edited or even cut short. I think I need to upload all my DVDs to the cloud when I know how and have a lot more time to spare......

Barry treat yourself to a NAS box, either 2, 4 or 8 bay depending on how many dvd's you have, then get a Nvidia shield to stream from your NAS to TV using Kodi on the shield, the best NAS on the market is the Synology, you can often pick used ones up for reasonable money £250 for a 4 bay on ebay, stick in a few decent hard drives, you don't have to fully populate the box straight off, the box also has a built in cloud storage if you need one, your just putting your data under your control, off course you can store much more than dvd's, Music, Photo's, documents etc etc, depending on budget a 4 bay box will hold upto 80TB these days
 
Thanks @maltrab really appreciate that. I did have my entire music collection on a NAS drive, took me months of work to upload my CD collection. I'm guessing uploading and ripping the entire 295 episodes from DVD would take a long while?

Hi maltrab,

are you sure you are not confusing it with the scene outdoors where the waitress is clearing the tables of our trio and Compo refers to her as 'Duchess'?

If not, I have the original VHS release of this story from 1984 (which, Ironically, I have never watched -- for some reason) and will give it a look, just to see if there is anything on there that differs from the latter releases.
