Hello All,

It is a privilege to have been accepted as a new member as of this week.

I grew up watching LOSW, having been born in '75, so cannot remember life without it really, although having just about finished the entire 295 episodes for the first time (I have just the final series to go...don't want it to end!!!) I am amazed at how I had somehow conflated elements from one series with those of another, having been so long since I saw them. I have so many thoughts on this wonderful programme after having watched (nearly) the whole lot...

Just returned from a week staying in Holmfirth.

Will try to attach pic here taken at my favourite spot...

Best wishes to all,

Daniel

Welcome Daniel, the picture location looks familiar at the end of Intake Lane above Jackson Bridge

Welcome Daniel, I too was born in '75 and grew up with the series, my first memory was watching Compo drinking his tea out of saucers!

Notice you're living in London, I used to live in a small flat there but wouldn't have been able to cope living there in lockdown as it had no garden - hope you're coping OK and have access to lots of green areas!

Thank you for your welcome, Maltrab! Yes, I was sat up in the heather on a steep bank which is about half way along the path that runs between Scar Hole Lane and the junction of Intake Lane and Scaly Gate. In fact, coming down from that place and heading downhill you find yourself at the famous green bench where so many classic shots (in my mind, anyway!) of the great Trio Owen-Sallis-Wilde were taken.

My previous visit to Summer Wine Land was in the winter, with no trace of heather around, so I was really chuffed to see the beautiful purple stuff all around me this trip!

All the best for now,

Daniel

Hi Barrychuckle - my earliest memories of the programme are the same! I once was up with my family staying with my Grandparents in Sheffield and thought I would try drinking tea out of my saucer and see if got away with it. No chance. My Dad (from Derbyshire...) went mad!

I'm right in the very middle of London, just the other side of the river from Westminster, so although have not a blade of grass here, I did have the benefit of walks by the river to keep sane! To be fair there are quite a few parks in this part of London, but it's just not the same as being in God's own creation....and the Pennines take some beating!

All the best for the next 45 years!

Daniel

Ha, outed! I guess the nickname pretty much gives it away! Are you perhaps a fiddler? I was a professional violinist in my past life...

Cheers and thanks

Welcome to the forum Daniel!
I'm glad that you enjoyed your week in Holmfirth, I'm hoping to go there sometime in September or October. I have been there 9 times - I can't get enough of the place!
I first started watching Last of The Summer Wine when I was 14 years old. It's such a great comedy with lovely views of Holmfirth and the Yorkshire countryside!

Welcome Daniel. I was born in Sheffield and lived on Sicey Avenue, Shiregreen. That was before the war but I do not accept any responsibility for that. Some great guys in this group and ...... ERR gals. Nearly let myself in for an early execution then. At my time of life I'm too old to be early for anything. Yes, we are a thoroughly happy crowd and we all look forward to your posts.
Peri. .....
Before you ask, my second name isn't Winkle. I know that will give a member we call Captain an idea for my second name. He's a very funny man, and so is Dick, he's an expert at one liners.

Thank you, Louise and Peri (-scope?!) for your warm welcomes!

Great to be a member of this group! My life is pretty hectic but I hope to check in as often as possible. I am currently entering an 'early' mourning period, since I have just the final episode to go to finish my epic journey of rediscovery! It is amazing how much LOSW changed and adapted (in some ways) as it developed over the years and decades...and yet never for a moment lost its magic as Summer Wine through and through. Andrew Vines really enjoyable book described Summer Wine Land as an England that never really existed...but it sure as anything makes more sense than any other, to me, and more so as the world gets more and more crazy!
I began watching from episode 1 back in February 2019, and resolved to watch an episode each evening. I couldn't always manage every evening, but this lockdown provided some excellent catch-up time! I don't want it to end, but I can always start again....!

In haste

Daniel

Welcome Daniel so nice to have you join the site ,wonderful picture . I hope you enjoy your time on the site and I look forward to your posts. I am really impressed by any musicians and those with musical ability. I wish I'd stuck in when at school where a musical instrument was compulsory for the first year but too late now . I fully appreciate Tony's choice of Avatar I am also a big Fairport fan and Swarb was just the greatest fiddle player I have had the pleasure of seeing and listening to.

Hi Captain, I was very good on the recorder, {tape}. Now I'm so old I'm taking lessons on the harp. Fingers crossed.
