Losing track of days. in lock down!!

dick

LOTSW Fanatic
Any one out there like me ??I watched CHEERING UP LUDOVIC again this week. His question....Is it Wednesday ?? (while he was upside down over the wall)struck a chord with me. I used to gauge my week by what we were doing on a given day. Since lock down started the days are mostly the same . Cannot leave the complex (I am in the vulnerable category ?) I am allowed to sit in the garden or walk around it.I did pick my prescription up from the chemist this week but its next door to the complex (50 yards is pushing it ) The t v is 90% reruns .If it wasn't for a neighbour bringing me the paper I might finish up asking " I s it Wednesday ?" :tw::fp:

I'm with you there Dick, though I have re-evaluated the calendar. Everything revolves around what used to be Wednesday (rubbish collection day) so for the last few weeks it has been Rubbish 0 Rubbish +1 (thursday) Rubbish -2 (Monday) or for today it's rubbish +3 (Saturday) and tomorrow rubbish -3 (Sunday)
If you inderstood that you're a better person than me, I lost the plot last Wednesday.............:13:

I always get my days mixed up, or should that be mixed down. You are right about the TV Dick, so many reruns. I never bother with newspapers. The last time I touched a newspaper was the day before toilet rolls were invented.

I know licensing is involved and repeat fees and probably some shows have been wiped but there have been some great shows from yesteryear that deserve to be aired . Whilst we complain about the lack of ingenuity and creativity in normal times I think there is a greater and more distinct lack of those qualities for those controlling the scheduling at present, especially considering the vast programme library they have to select from .

At present I think Ray Davies maybe got it wrong with his sentiments when you consider how we are all living[other than the endless line] :-

Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I'm thinking of the days
I won't forget a single day, believe me

I touch my newspaper every day. It has the crossword and the latest advice to the lovelorn. It also has daily special sections, Tuesday is Health, Wednesday is Food, Thursday is Local Living, Friday is Weekend Doings and Saturday has Sunday's comics, Style and Arts, and Travel. So I always know what day it is. I also know that it's either Monday evening or Thursday evening because that's when Hubby knocks around gathering the trash for the next day pick-up. I also have a clock on order that tells you the date, time, day of the week, and AM or PM. But still the newspaper will come in handy. Oh, yes, in addition to the crossword it contains the news.

Sometimes it even comes in handy for swatting flies.

We are going Christmas shopping next week, just in case everything runs out, what do mean a bit early,I could of sworn it is November.

Don't get me stated on repeats on TV, so glad I binned my licence almost 5 years ago, of course they won't show you anything decent from their vast library, they want you to pay again to watch that via UK channels or Britbox

We get a free licence otherwise I think that I would be inclined to bin mine.

I know two days. Friday is bin day and Tuesday the veg mans comes after that's its every day for its self.
What I find a kick in the teeth is they're still having bank holidays! We've had a one huge bank holiday since March! Its half term next week but the kids have had half term since march!
I know it's for safety reasons and to help the NHS and other key works and I'm not complaining.

Are you good at crosswords Adanor? My wife is excellent with crosswords but, much to my sorrow and sore ears, not the kind that you find in newspapers. :13::eek2:

Are you good at crosswords

No one can touch Albert Steptoe for Crosswords . Based on his Scrabble game having published it in the Parish Magazine , the Vicar was arrested for publishing obscene literature and copies of the magazine were changing hands for exorbitant amounts of money . The Ladies at the Derby and Joan Club had to be revived by St John's Ambulance but if they didn't know the words why did they fill it in .

I love the banter between Harold and Albert at the end of the episode.

Harold :- " I only have three things to say to you 6 across 13 across and 28 down"
Albert :- "Don't you dare use language like that at me"
Harold:- " Up your 14 across"
Albert:- " I won't be spoken to like that I'm your Father"
Harold:- " Not according to 16 down!!! "
:)

I wouldn't know what day it is if Governor Cuomo didn't begin each day's briefing by announcing it. It's on my phone's home screen, but I don't look at it that very often. I switched my newspaper subscription to digital years ago, but I've gotten terribly behind on reading the newspaper because I've been reading so much fiction. Mostly mystery novels, interspersed with a few historical ones. The current novel is The Alice Network by Kate Quinn, about the World War I female spy network led by Louise de Bettignies, alias Alice Dubois. Thank goodness for the Kindle and access to electronic format books from both my local public library and, because I'm a New York State resident, from New York Public Library, which is in Manhatten, a 5-6 hour drive from my home.

I used to watch nearly all of the historical and science documentaries broadcast by my local public TV station, and I still have the TIVO set to record them, but it's disc is nearly full and I haven't watched anything in months except my DVDs of First and Last of the Summer Wine. I occasionally take a break to watch Open All Hours or Dad's Army. All of those series are equally relaxing at bedtime.

I wouldn't know what day it is if Governor Cuomo

Marianna,

We used to see Governor Cuomo's broadcasts on Sky News in the UK but they no longer broadcast them which is a pity because I was particularly impressed with the way he dealt with them . He is an extremely charismatic man and showed great empathy with the situation and for those poor people who sadly have passed away during this Pandemic nightmare . It would be interesting to understand what New Yorkers and your views are regarding the way he has handled it in general non - political terms, clearly I do not wish to bring any form of politics to our site .

I watch the briefings online @ https://www.governor.ny.gov/news. The time varies, but today he's on at noon EDT.

We watch Cuomo every day on CNN Sky News Channel, 506

I can't speak for any New Yorker other than myself, but you asked for it!

IMHO, the Governor has found his calling in the way he is handling the pandemic crisis. He keeps up with the constantly-changing science as it moves from what we thought we knew based on other viral infections to what we're learning as we go through this one. The primary take-away from the ramped-up testing is that PPE works so by extension, ordinary masks plus keeping a safe distance probably work for the rest of us. The testing shows that the infection rate is much lower among hospital staff than among the general population. Despite his daughters' perception, he communicates well, accurately, clearly and with great empathy. I hadn't paid much attention to him until now, but his daily briefings are not to be missed.
