It was once argued ,that I was wrong when I claimed the tree once grew in the middle of the slabs !:eyesroll::cheek:
I wish I had chimed in on that conversation! There was a tree in that position during the filming of "Forked Lightening" and I believe I recall the same or a very similar one in that position the first time I visited, in July of 2007. I also saw one next to the church entrance steps, between the steps and the door.

I just double-checked my travel files and photos and found that my first visit was in 2006, not 2007. During that visit, I took a photo of the cafe and in the upper right-hand corner I caught a bit of the canopy from the tree next to the steps leading to the church entrance. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the tree that was approximately where one end of the current concrete planter is located.

When I noticed the sign for Checkers Unisex Salon, located over the Cafe, I heard Edie saying to Glenda, "You weren't brought up to ..." followed by, "Drink your coffee!"

I remember the first Unisex Hairdressers in Newcastle where I live[Salon 66 ] and boy what a stir that caused. Being young it was great completely different to the old fashioned barbers where you could ask for any style you liked and got a " short back and no sides" cut regardless . The old guard as you can imagine absolutely loathed them questioned anyone who used them but people my age thronged to it .

They washed your hair , gave you a fresh gown that wasn't covered with clippings of twenty plus previous haircuts and stunk of stale beer and cigarettes . The stylists were a mix of male and female but pretty much all of the ladies cut the gents hair and the men the ladies plus here is a novelty , you can even book the stylist of choice instead of some short sighted old duffer who could only cut one way and mostly by touch because he couldn't see !

The final change was yes you could " drink your coffee" because that was all part of the experience a " free coffee" was all part of the service ! :)
