Hello Gill,

I am not sure you are an exception in one aspect of declaring your age i.e as you say it ensures you get nice cards and presents but I would imagine you are in the minority of both men and women who declare their true age . To illustrate my old dear was in a relationship with a younger man sometime after my Dad had passed away.
She was conscious of the age gap and so lied about her age for sometime and even though she had a senior citizen bus pass she continued to pay her fare when they travelled anywhere . It went on for a few years until she finally conceded that she was older than she was and started to use her pass . What she did not know was the very first holiday they went abroad her new fella had seen her passport and knew her age anyway .

My old dear of course went on the offensive and demanded to know why he let her keep up the pretence and make her pay her fare , nothing he could say would of course appease her so opted for " I knew your age but you looked so much younger I didn't want to say anything and I had convinced myself mentally that you were the age you said you were" . It didn't really cut the mustard and eventually they parted.

I was smiling until the last part, how sad! It shouldn't matter about age. I'm 53 and happy to tell people that. ( Except the grandkids because it drives them potty when I knock 10 years off ;) )

Like I said I have a team of experts on the trail and I'm sure they'll get right on it when the pub closes :18:, of cause when I find out which pub it'll be sooner rather than later :33::46:
Thsnk's Pearl.

Pearl ,

She is now coming up 92 and because she does look younger than her years she has always reduced her age when asked . Subsequent to finishing that relationship, which I suppose was sad at the time , she has had others but being fiercely independent does not want to marry/live with anyone loves her own space but likes company been out today socialising at a club which meets once a fortnight . Although not as fit as she was a couple of years ago she is stoic in her determination to be out and about as long as she can .

My mother would never give her age. When I told her I knew because I'd seen her driver's license, she said it wasn't correct because she'd had to lie her age to get a driver's license so she could help her family during the depression. The helping her family during the depression was true, but the lying her age to get her driver's license wasn't. My sister's and I thought that was so foolish that all 4 of us always told our true age. I'm 73 and thankful for every year.

In my family, adults' ages was a taboo topic, although money, religion and politics were not. That must have been a topsy-turvy world that I grew up in! Or perhaps a Through the Looking-Glass one.
