Can you recall any episodes that other than Hangovers and Compo's departure when there was illness in the show,I know there was the one with Clem Hemingway in Hospital, but where there any others

There was Sam and and anther one with Henry Magee but the episode escapes at the moment.

what about old Edgar in the 1978 christmas special "Small Tune on a Penny Wassail"

I cannot recall a episode where the basic trio were ill,you may know better

Barry always seemed to have a hangover during special occasions like Christmas and his wedding. Does that count?

I recall one, where Clegg ended up with his leg in plaster. It was one of the later editions, can't recall the title.

I get the sense that the show stayed away from illness for the same reason it stayed away from death (with a few notable exceptions) - because it wasn't really what the show was about. After all, its about older men (and later women) having fun in their "golden years," so stuff like death and illness doesn't really fit, though there are occasional episodes where somebody we never saw passes away. So nobody major gets sick and their deaths are mentioned later or not at all, except of course for Compo.

I can't remember the episode but Compo rang Nora's bell and laid on the stairs. Nora thought that Compo was dead at first.....funny stuff. Of course he conned Nora, using her sense of sympathy, to let him in and then he was running out with Nora and a brush behind him.
:D
