Just saw/heard Pearl say this last night. Think it
was in Set The People Free.

Only remember Ivy saying that.

Definitely a good statement it sums your feelings up when the world is against you ,which is most of the time!

Sugar coated ones are the best ;) ;) ;) http://parkinsons-of-burnley.blogspot.ie/2011/05/blood-and-stomach-pills.html

I remember my mother having them John ,when I was around 7 or 8.Also Carters ( I think) Liver and Kidney pills. ::)

Actually I think these sort of things date from the days when one was encouraged to be 'regular'. If you were 'regular' then you would feel better, less bloated and so on. According to the web Liver Pills contained bisacodyl which was a laxative, which was the basis of many patent medicines and I think Blood and Stomach pills had much the same intended action.

Possibly a placebo - certainly my paternal grandmother was a regular at Dr Nankiviells and would get a large bottle entitled 'The Mixture' which a pharmacist friend many years ago told me was basically a licquorice base with some sugar and a mild laxative to keep her regular. She always said it never did any good but then she also took Fynnon Salts (a form of Epsom Salts) which is a laxative. So once you have one dosage to make you regualr the next thing can not make you any more regular! :D :D :D

Parents always asked ,have you been today and if you had not boy the big guns came out horrible tasting liquid and then ten minutes later OH BOY.Wasnt life fun in the forties and fifties bet if it was tried now the police would be called!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I always wondered about ,"What the blood and stomach pills!" meant. One of those wonder things in the medicine they just couldn't do without! Thanks

Here I thought 'blood and stomach pills' was just a more polite way of saying the swear word 'bloody'. Did not know it was an actual thing.

My mother would have never, ever inquired about what happened in the bathroom. So glad that she didn't.
