A friend of mine in Germany has an older T-5. It has a history and has crossed borders. Although currently legit, it was a hot box for awhile. Because of that, the door latches don't work so well. He is a wheelchair driver and has done it up nice. He has an electric lift, but it was tastefully done, it does NOT look like a handicap transport. He has tarted it up with a retractable side canopy, a motorized kayak rack on the roof, a bike rack on the back, a tasteful interior and a high tech coffee maker. It has an Audi engine with automatic transmission The floor mounted shift lever was rotated 90 degrees to accommodate transfer from the wheelchair to the drivers seat. The first time I drove it, nobody told me about the funky shift configuration, so it took a while to get rolling.
Ferret, your Vee Dub looks mighty fine and dandy, hang onto it and enjoy it. I have always been tempted, but the roads here in New England are so heavily salted in the winter, they rust out in no time. Afficionados have told me that the busses made in South America (?Brazil?) were more rust resistant.
