Injury

So guess what. I was playing basketball with Joey yesterday and dislocated my kneecap! It was extremely painful! I cried and I usually have an insanely high pain tolerance! Not my finest hour. Had to go to the ER and everything. So right now I'm just laying here bored out of my mind with my leg propped up. I have to wear this big ugly leg brace for at least 3 weeks and then I have to go to the bone and joint clinic to make sure it's healing correctly and they'll let me know if I have to wear it longer then. This is seriously going to drive me crazy. Anyway it got me thinking about how pretty much everyone has gotten injured and had to go to the ER so I was wondering if y'all had any injury stories of your own?

Broke my leg 18 months ago. Laid up for nearly 3 months. My leg is still swollen now. The good thing is that you get waited on for that time :35: then back to normal

I got ran over by a car once and broke my toe by getting foot caught in the spokes of bike but thats it really.

Sorry to hear about your injury Holly, these things can take some time to mend and never much fun,you just have to adapt and make use of the time less mobile doing something else, you could always watch losw from start to finish,Terry

I over reached one day climbing into the loft. The ladder went side ways, I went down ! I damaged three vertebrae in my spine , one was compressed to half its original thickness .I was told by the spine specialist that if it had gone 2 mm more I could have been in a wheelchair. I was in a body cast for 8 weeks and even now walk with a stick(but at least I'm walking!)This was nearly 18 years ago. So my message is Holly, try and stay positive!:17::)

Oh, dear, so sorry Holly ! And sorry for all others injuries. Dick, yours sounds so bad. I never broke a thing till I was 61 . . . tripped over a step in The Art Café in London. Went smack down face front . . hubby and friends thought I hit my head. Upper arm break, no cast, they don't do it for upper. Wonderful EMT, Amy, had me breathe that stuff they give anxious people on the ride to hospital. It was our first night in London and we had 6 days to finish ending in Paris via the Eurostar ( is that correct? ).

I broke my leg while waiting for the school bus when I was 14. I slipped on the ice. My dad thought I just didn't want to go to school. I never missed, don't know why he thought that. My mom took me to the hospital, then when we came in the door after 1pm(took forever),my dad asked,"so what is wrong with her?" She answered, "well Albert, her leg is broken". What did he think, my mom was going to play hookie with me! He didn't say a word after that. :02:

Then, back in the 90's I was swatting at a moth, so I thought it was. It was a hornet! It went right under my glasses and stung me somewhere in the lower eye lid. Half of my face swelled up, and my husband got the hornet so they didn't think he bashed my face in. My throat started to swell up in the waiting room and they wouldn't take me back, I was having a hard time to breath. My husband told them if they didn't take me back right away, he was going to take me to another hospital, and if I died,he was going to own the place. They took me back gave me 2 shots of something and ahhhhhhhh, what a relief to relax and get air. I don't swat at anything but flies now.8)

So sorry Holly. I was pinned between my own car and a van. I had gotten out of my ole Nova at work (this was about 25 years ago) and then heard the car rolling backwards. I tried to "catch it" but the the wheels turned and foot got trapped and pinned me. I broke my pelvic bone. :(

Knees can be very tricky. Wear that ugly knee brace for as long as the doctor requires and follow all of his orders to the letter; and when your knee is free of pain, be very thankful. I can tell you literally tons of stories of people who experienced hip and/or knee injuries which NEVER TOTALLY healed.

Sorry to hear about your tale of woe, makes my sprained ankle after coming off my bike the other day look pathetic, hope you are back on your feet soon

Wow y'all have some scary injury stories! Most of my injuries have been sports injuries like this one or the result of doing something really stupid. So here's an update: I got pretty depressed about not being able to do anything that requires too much physical activity and my parents got pretty worried about me. I guess my past behavior may have led them to believe I might hurt myself if I got too sad. But two of my best friends showed up at my house the other night, with junk food and DVDs, and surprised me with an awesome slumber party! You know, junk food, movies, facials, manicures, gossip...pretty much everything you do at a slumber party. Lol And my parents were in on it too! So basically I have the best friends and parents ever! Lol And I'm not depressed anymore but I still can't wait to get out of this brace and as soon as I do I'm going to the gym. But for now I guess I'll enjoy hanging out with friends and not doing too much physical activity.

Thanks! I'm actually at Joey's right now. We're playing video games. He dug up his old Nintendo 64, so we're playing the games we played as kids. And I have to say he's a little rusty because I'm beating him pretty bad right now! Lol We're taking a break from the game to drink some coffee because we usually like to drink coffee until we can't see straight and then go vandalize something! Lol But tonight we're just going to play video games because I can't run if we get caught so committing a crime might not be the best idea right now! Lol

ROFL, Holly. It would be something like "RUN, Forrest, RUN!" Omigosh, you make me giggle. Thanks for all your posts. be well.

Didn't mean to make it sound too scary. Do as many slumber parties as you need. God speed on the healing. Are there any carnivals or county fairs with rides? You could get your thrills without any spills.

I'm actually going to the movies with Joey tonight! Lol His mom and sister are going too so it should be a good time. And it's a horror movie! Our favorite genre! Lol I'm sure y'all have seen it advertise on tv, it's called "Annabelle" and it's about a doll with a demon in it! We'll have to sit in a row with more leg room to accommodate my brace so that means we won't be able to sit in the back row and throw popcorn at random strangers like we usually do, but it should still be fun. :) And I won't give away any spoilers in case someone here wanted to see it so don't ask! Lol
