Hey Terry, at one time you mentioned a program you used
to convert DVDs to AVI files. I now have a bunch of old
The Royal DVDs (VOB files) that I would like to convert
to AVI files. Please remind me how this can be done??

thanx

Thanks Terry!! Got it up and running on two machines.

Right now trying to understand and choose the right
attributes to burn DivX AVI files (NOT mp4!!).

Think I should pick DivX - Movie instead of AVI - Audio-
Video Interleaved????

Converts ok, but whatever output format I choose is
not supported by my dvd player.

Suggestions?? Video size??

I would think it is your dvd player not supporting anything other than standard dvd format,if you have a dvd on your pc then install VLC Media player which is free and will play anything, this will confirm your disc's are ok,also make sure you finalize the disc's when you burn them, otherwise domestic dvd players cannot read the disc

Once you know the problem, you can tweak the video size in the profile section for better quality

Terry, perhaps I am at cross purposes here.

I am trying to convert a stack of old DVDs (VOB files) into
a set of AVI files I can put on a USB drive (or a PC
hard drive for storage) to play thru my DVD player to
a TV. All the AVI files I have downloaded from torrent
sites play just fine. Just need to know the parameters
to set to create AVI files with IM2. I plug the USB drive
into the DVD player port and voila!!

thanks

If that is the way you are doing it Chuck it should work,do they work when played on the pc, avi and divx are pretty standard formats along with MP4

Terry, my problem is in selecting the right options,
especially the Video Size. Not sure which one to pick.

Also, MUST generate AVI files as MP4 will not play
on my DVD player. I thought AVI files were DivX??

Div x is a variant of avi but supposed to be better quality, all you can do is play with the settings until you get the result required, you still did not answer did they play on the pc okay
