Stuck Truck

I remember driving along these quite narrow lanes near Castleton, possibly Bakewell in the Peak District and suddenly there's a huge truck with trailer was stuck in a compromising position and road totally blocked. The driver was AWOL and it was a bit of a dance reversing and getting out of there with other cars involved in the calamity.
How?, Why?, When? Who? :21::21::21:

The only situations that I remember vividly are the two farms I had to reverse up their drive to collect the potatoes.
These two farms were in Norfolk (near Dereham) and didn't have enough room for an arctic to turn round. The shortest drive was just short of 1Km and after a couple of years of getting used to it I could do it in about 8 minutes!

This situation was weird. It was about 25 years ago. The truck wasn't from England. Either Polish or Dutch and he obviously thought "oh heck" but decided to carry on and the road gets a tad twisted, not like Cornwall etc but still not arctic friendly yikes.
I just drove off with my GF at the time thinking WTH?
Probably panicked who knows!!

Took members of the family to a wedding Down Sowf' in a transit mini bus never driven one . Got them used to the change in language by playing Chas n Dave's greatest hits so they had a few phrases and could understand what people were saying. The B and B was along a lane the car park was too tight to get in lady owner said I had to park the bus half a mile back in a lay-by . With someone directing me back an hour later caked in sweat I made it , never again just a nightmare , oh and I managed to scrape the wing slightly in a Service station on the way down. :mad:

I used to have a Luton bodied van - don't ask! - basically an oblong box with doors, stuck on a long wheel-base van chassis. There's a roundabout junction on the dual carriageway just off the M25 near Watford, I was coming down a moderately steep hill towards the busy roundabout, most traffic is going to / from the M25, so I need to give way, so I press on the brake pedal... press on the brake... Press. On. The. BRAKE!!!
I didn't hit anything. I think I eventually came to rest about 4 feet over the give way line ... Phew!
Then the entire contents of the continued to travel forwards until they hit the partition like an elephant.
I don't know what's worse, having a mechanical failure and getting stuck, or having a mechanical failure and (nearly) not stopping!
