Oh please no! Tell me its not true!!
They take a perfectly great film and sas it up for the present day and mess it up. Look what they did to The Italian Job, great film, My favourite saying of all time" They were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" And they slaughtered it.

Hve to think about that one mate! Some of the remakes I have seen(Sherlock Holmes for instance)have not grabbed me like the originals :-\

I'd like to see some of the old Charlie Chan films remade, but I cant think who I would like to play the lead.

Films like 'Clash of the Titans' are remade using CGI effects and to me it just doesn't look right, I prefer the 1981 movie it looks more solid to me with Ray Harryhausen's stop motion models.
Even though there is better technology, alot of the films should be left well alone. The main trouble with remakes is that the modern day actors are not up to the standards of the actors of the past.
Also these modern remakes just don't have any atmosphere at all.
I personally cannot see Cruise fitting in as a character in the Magnificent 7.
I totally hate the idea of remakes (shows a dearth of talent in the creative writing department) and you can hardly ever improve on the original, if at all.
Just a pathetic way to keep some actors in the limelight (after all, many American actors have an analyst whom they visit regular to tell them how good they are at around a $1,000 a pop) - my friend who has done a bit of acting told me of this).
Tom Cruise in The Magnificent Seven,mm, wonder which fence post he will be cast as because I have never seen a more wooden actor.
Sorry for the rant but it just makes me seethe.
Sir Michael Caine was right when he said that if they insist on remaking movies then they should be made to wait until at least 50 years after the original, by which time many of the people connected to that said movie will have passed on and cannot be insulted by such garbage.

The new versions of Poseidon, Italian Job, etc - awful.
It's not very original to remake a film. That said, it may be a good idea to remake films that were and are absolute flops if they can be improved on.
On tv I tried to watch the remake of Reggie Perrin, but most of it was just unwatchable.
When it comes to film and tv, everything has been done, so they now remake things.
If they want to remake something, why not remake missing episodes of old comedies and dramas? (If you don't mind someone else playing Captain Mainwaring and Hancock.)

Spot on.
On the Hancock thing, I seem to recall Paul Merton tried to rehash the episodes in an updated version and it was a disaster.
Also they were in the process a few years before of remaking the Hancock's half hour TV episodes with Arthur Lowe in the role of Hancock and James Beck as Sid James but alas Beck died before they could get the project off the ground.

The only remake I prefer to the original is The Thing. I think that John Carpenters 1982 movie was far more inventive and faithful to the Novella by John W Campbell than Howard Hawks' Thing From Another World.
It also featured a great cast and superb effects by Rob Bottin.
