My favourite holiday was a 2000 mile escorted couch tour of the United States in 1998 taking in such places as the grand canyon,Monument Valley,Las Vegas,Malibu
San Francisco and Yosemite National park we also went to Zion National Park but for me the highlight was going to Alcatraz prison on san francisco bay it was quite chilling although it has been closed for a number of years. You have to get a boat from pier 39 over to the island. When you get there you can either make your own way round or have a walkman type guide with ear phones and you can go in the cells and the canteen. Also went to Death Valley which is one of the hottest places i have ever been.

I love this topic very much as it is my hobby.

Every New Year we go to London, mainly because my wife likes to go for the sales. But must admit that I also love London. I feel at home there.

Then we go for an Easter holiday which is Spain, Benidorm or Mallorca or Costa Brava.

During summer we go on two holidays mostly in the north of Europe. This end of July we are going to Austria and end of August we are going to Naples and areas like Pompeii etc.

My best holiday trip wasn´t a real holiday trip, it was an excursion during my study, we went to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean for 4 weeks. I never froze, not even in the sea, that was a whole new experience :D. And the jungle... It was all wonderful, except of our professor who was as mad as a hatter and very moody.

Over the years I have enjoyed visiting Arizona,Vegas,San Francisco and I agree with Amos Alcatraz is a harrowing place,I did enjoy a few days around Carmel & Truckee plus the steam train ride to the Canyon and Back was great fun, these days due to a damaged inner ear I can no longer risk taking a flight anywhere, so it is either the tunnel or Ferries to Europe and visiting friends in Holland and Germany

Apart from two day trips to Holmfirth in '08 and '11 I have never actually been away on holiday.I must admit I have never had the urge or interest to go abroad. There are hundreds of places in the UK I have never been to so I would rather see those.
Anyway the thought of all the hassle with packing, airports, hotels and all the trouble associated with travelling
I think I would rather give it a miss thank you very much. :)

Places I've been to that I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
South Georgia
Falkland Islands
Sierra Leone
Israel

Places that I've been to that are nice
Chile
Easter Island
Cuba
Bolivia
Tasmania
Germany

I agree I have had some good holidays in Cornwall & Scotland and maybe I will get to Scotland again later this year,so I will call into George's on the way up for a cuppa

While I enjoyed the experience of a trip to Malta 10 years ago like you George I love to holiday in this country. We went to Lizard Point in Cornwall a few years ago staying in a cottage my daughter had booked.Very little there except Lizard village and a couple of pubs. One night we were making our way back to the cottage when my daughter took the key and ran for the bathroom while we carried on strolling. We came upon her stood stargazing looking up at the night sky. Where we were there were no street lamps and apart from the flash from the lighthouse a coupl of miles away it was pitch black. We saw every star the whole sky seemed to be saying look upwards. I suppose you would get a similar sight in the desert but if we can do that over here who needs abroad? (We love Cornwall and Norfolk and have been to Scotland a few times)There is a lot of the UK we still have to visit. :D

I have seen Cornwall on the telly and Yorkshire of course and I would love to visit them for the reason they are green. In Malta we have blue only but the green fields and etc are so inviting. I guess you can't have everything in life..

Splendid Amos. You have seen more of the Western US than I have. Though in America, I only took one trip out west but like you I saw Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and San Fransisco. Grand Canyon and San Fransisco are wonderful. And when in the Western US desert one must make sure they have plenty of the following; shade and water.

I haven't been to England yet, but aside from Yorkshire, the western parts such as Cornwall would be the top of my list. It is funny that when I think of all of Europe, England, Ireland, and Scotland are three countries I would likely rather see than any of mainland Europe. Hopefully I don't offend anyone when I consider the United Kingdom as part of Europe!

Abroad,Feutreventura in the Canaries, great, even when its 45 in the shade, and your apartment has no air conditioning lol.Over here,North Norfolk

Ever notice or think about that you have so much to offer at home but yet as they say "the Grass is always greener on the other side". Same as here in Malta every square inch is history. People buy land to build a home and when digging starts works stops as a temple is found and it becaomes the governments. Roman temples are an everyday thing.. But yet we still like to go abroad before seeing all we got here. In England you have lots of beauty like the north which has Yorkshire and the south Cornwall. I would love to see them.

When any of you go to visit the Cafe on your holiday try and stay in front of it so we can see you on the Webcam. It says it changes every 50 seconds but I have waited longer thatn that much longer.

The last time we went my daughter was watching us on the webcam she took some screen shots of us in the pooring rain looking like drowned rats :D
My favourite holiday is Scotland, I love the scenery and the people. The Highlands are amazing so beautiful and peaceful.

One of my favourite european destinations is Rome such a beautiful city with so much history also Paris as well. Also been to Amsterdam,Prauge and Brussels

forgot to add Guernsey

Been to Jersey, that was very nice,at the time the speed limit was about 20mph everywhere, great to watch all the big expensive cars doing 20mph,it would be a great place to use electric cars I would think, plenty to see and do on the island
