Confused

Every time I look at this map I get so confused. I thought the equator was East to West not North to South.

However it lets me give you an insight into Billy Connolly's latest book which I am reading and there's a bit where he is talking about meeting three lady fans who ask him for an autograph . He points out " They are a little on the plump side though not obese , certainly no strangers to the Mars Bar diet , their only mistake was they were eating them and not placing them , in the context of your picture Peri , in the equator and getting their dogs to chase them which would improve their fitness and help them lose weight."
