Just at the moment, don't breathe deeply in the vicinity of Gayle Beck. Today's BBC news report is not good...

    Who is she.

It's similar, but not quite good enough.

    New Weather Station

That doesn't look like a rural area to me!

    Who is she.

I'm not particularly fond of pigs, having grown up on a farm where we kept a few of the escape artists, but I do like bacon. Strongly prefer back bacon, as served in the UK, but nearly all we can get here in the States is cut from the pork belly, so it's mostly fat. What you refer to as streaky...

Been there for part of a day's photography. An easy stroll over the hill via the footpath next to the parish church takes you to Gayle, where you can visit the Yorkshire Wensleydale creamery and sample some of their wonderful cheeses. Gayle Mill is just a little way along the road, so you can...

Scarborough Fair - Yorkshire Coast Documentary (1973)

For my money, Whitby beats Scarborough. I'll take climbing the 199 steps over riding the funicular. And there are some work-arounds for those who are less mobile. The tour bus starts from down in the town and drives up to the Abbey entrance.

    Air India flight 171

Thanks for posting here. In any situation the genuine "How are you doing?" can be necessary. It's far too rare, though. This is a good reminder that empathy is always needed.

Did I Imagine It, Or Was This Tune Quoted In An Early Episode?

And I had the words stored away in my memory without knowing that I had ever before heard either tune or words. I saw that episode way back when I could still hear. I'd never have picked up on it now - even with top-of-the-line hearing aids, my brain doesn't make sense of music. Thanks to...

We need an emoticon to express "moan, groan!"

Number 4 is my biggest worry

I'm simply struggling to reconcile a middle-aged mind trapped in an elderly body. And architecturally, I'm still stuck on perpendicular (late) gothic, although I also find the solidity of the Norman style comforting.

For my eyes, it's in Fahrenheit. Saves me the chore of calculating the conversion.

The Snowdropper (1977) with Peter Sallis

I've been there only in summer. Wouldn't attempt a winter visit. My maternal grandfather grew up in the southern foothills of that mountain range. We visited "up home" the second Sunday in August each year for the family reunion, but never at any other time.

The Snowdropper (1977) with Peter Sallis

I doubt that Ohio winters were much different from south central NY. You want different, you need to head up into the Adirondacks.

Did I Imagine It, Or Was This Tune Quoted In An Early Episode?

That was something else, played very badly.

The Snowdropper (1977) with Peter Sallis

Oh, you're so young, and probably urban! When I was growing up on a farm in south central upstate New York from 1944-1965, laundry was always hung out unless it was raining stair rods. In winter it "freeze-dried", and required some force to fold it to fit in the laundry basket. Always washed and...

Did I Imagine It, Or Was This Tune Quoted In An Early Episode?

It sounds like background music for Seymour and his 3-wheeler, but for some reason I had connected it with The Northern Flying Circus. I scanned through that episode last night, but didn't hear even a short quote from the song.

Congratulations on your success! I can exercise but very cautiously, as I walk a razor-edge between adding strength to the muscles that rhabdo didn't destroy and triggering another rhabdo flare-up with its attendant muscle destruction and associated kidney damage. Added to that is my age - 81 -...

Can recommend everything that the Cap listed. Been there, done that, would enjoy a revisit. Love Whitby, partly because I like the HF house just outside town. Could spend another several days poking around and photographing the Abbey ruins. The church is worth an extensive visit, too. Seem to...

    Alan J Bell book

Have you checked Abe Books? Look for a UK seller to reduce the shipping cost to your home. Brit Books, in Milton Keynes, lists one used copy available as of this morning. The price seemed reasonable for a book that's becoming somewhat rare.
