Although I enjoyed the film (first time I saw it was the DVD), I had read the book a number of times before. In my mind the events of the story happened somewhere between Series 1 and 2, with Cyril Blamire. So it jarred a little in my mind. Nevertheless, still an enjoyable watch.
I have that book, too. An interesting book overall.
I do wonder what Roy Clarke thought of it, being written by someone else. Didn't he once stop the characters appearing on a show because someone else had written the script? He said something along the lines of "No one writes for my characters...
She was the woman who entered the cafe wearing the same hat as Nora. You can tell when it is, when Ronnie Hazlehurst does a few bars of the Laurel & Hardy theme.
I don't think you do, but the two girls at the start walk down the steps to the courtyard where the cafe is (although you don't see the cafe). Maybe they thought if a series developed, that's the building that they would use.
EDIT: OR could the outside of the cafe have been seen in a deleted scene?
