    Link

Oh my God, I am such a victim of the Internet age. This thread is called "Link" but I was confused that there was no hypertext link to another web page anywhere. Then it dawned on me that "link", in the old, pre-Internet form of the language, also meant a "connection" between two things. I'm...

    A new quiz

Smoking is also used in other European languages as well; French, and Czech, and probably others as well. As I recall, towards the end of the 19th Century, it became fashionable among the young men of the upper classes in New York to wear smoking jackets instead of tail-coats at social...

    Favourite Bond film

As a kid, I really loved James Bond (as all boys do), particularly Sean and his oh-so-cool brogue and his oh-so-cool Aston Martin, although the first one I actually saw in a cinema was The Spy Who Loved Me, with Roger. After they came to the end of the novels with Octopussy, I lost interest and...

    New Forum design.

Duhhh... If I looked a little harder I might see what's under my nose ::) And as I've been using Seamonkey, I don't see the mouseover.

    New Forum design.

I'm fine with either theme, but is there a way to keep the "show unread posts" function? It's quite a handy little feature to have. I will also second cciaffone's question - is there some function to explain the various icons on the pages?

    New Forum design.

It took me a bit to get used to the new look - everything seems darker (well, because it IS darker...) but I have no problems with it. And I like the "show unread posts" feature; that's very handy. And Happy Birthday to the forum too. Many happy returns.

Way to go Chuffer! Stelland Taffy were the only names I've heard. Has anyone heard any others?

    A new quiz

Don't know if this question has already been (haven't gone through all 26 pages of this thread), but I'll try it here - What were the names of Compo's ferrets?

Damn! Rob beat me to it! Yeah, I think the number bar on Ken's shoulder strap.

    A bit shocked.

Wow! Brilliant ending to the story, mate! Couldn't have done better if it'd been scripted! Just goes to show, all it takes is a bit of willingness to understand other people and their circumstances... I think such stories are typical for people like Compo, who tend to be fairly extreme in their...

    Music

You don't mean "All Things Bright and Beautiful", do you? I just watched it again to check but I didn't catch any other significant music. If that's what you mean, it's an Anglican hymn, although many other denominations use it as well. Check out here...

    A bit shocked.

Interesting comment Bluprint. I think you have to be really, reeeaaalllyyy out of touch with reality to imagine that Compo is a "pervert". A friend of mine would describe him as " a cheeky old bugger", but I don't think you could say anything worse than that. As other people here have mentioned...

    Another Newbie

Thanks ****, I like yours too - it conjures up that feeling of those carefree, laid-back summer afternoons that I vicariously enjoyed with the lads on the Yorkshire hills!

    Another Newbie

You know, I appreciate the maps link on the Summerwine homepage to see where the filming locations are, but it can be quite dangerous at times. Once I'm there, I can easily spend hours wandering across Yorkshire on the Google satellite views! Keep hunting locations and posting the photos, Claye!

Excellent! And does Cleggy rent his front room to Howard? Of course not! Cleggy's not a daft pillock! Way to go that scruffy little man! Who'll go next?
