    Hold the remote

Hello Barrychuckle! The older episodes were the gritty ones dealing with redundancy. The newer ones gave more of a feel of happy retirement unless you were Howard or Smiler!

    RIP Shane McGowan

I saw Shane MacGowan and the Popes perform in the mid-90s in Cincinnati, Ohio. He came onto the stage and people were cheering. I could have sworn he said, "Hello Richmond." (As in Richmond, Virginia). Wild times for sure!

    RIP Shane McGowan

I like the Pogues a lot but am only a little familiar with Kirsty MacColl. What happened to her?

    Hold the remote

Awesome topic. Thinking of the later "Summer Wine Land" era in the later years, I would love to be along the hillsides with Truly, Clegg, Barry, Billy, and Wesley. We would perhaps be partaking in Billy's archery misadventures. With the Blamire years, it might be in the car with the trio and...

    Who's your favorite character?

For me, Foggy may be the single funniest character and was part of most of the top episodes. Truly was a great compliment to the expanded cast of barmpots in the later seasons.

    Who's your favorite character?

My runner-up would be Foggy. For me, most of Summer Wine's absolute finest episodes come from Foggy eras. The character himself is purely the funniest. Although, I always have to vote for Truly. After the first few seasons, he developed this cool, calm, and collective persona and always seemed...

Attempted to introduce my boyfriend to Summer Wine

Great point about observing the changes in Holmfirth over the years. Holmfirth in the early and mid 70's seems like a world away. There is also observing Ivy's Cafe over the years!

Attempted to introduce my boyfriend to Summer Wine

I can proudly say, I don't need C Captions, but it would have been helpful the first time around.

Attempted to introduce my boyfriend to Summer Wine

Watching the eras gradually (and not so gradually) change by watching from the very beginning is fantastic. Although, for someone new to Summer Wine or that style of comedy, the Blamire years take getting accustomed to (at least some of the more dialogue-driven episodes like 40 Foot Ferret. For...

Attempted to introduce my boyfriend to Summer Wine

I think Summer Wine could be very good for your friend as well. There is the tranquil aspect of the Yorkshire Dales in the background and the slow-paced, family-friendly comedy (well most of it anyway).

Attempted to introduce my boyfriend to Summer Wine

I am a huge Summer Wine fan and my wife is a moderate Summer Wine fan. So we view it in moderation. With the different eras of Summer Wine, it is hard to come up with a perfect starter. It depends on the person. However, I suggest getting your boyfriend to give it a chance for 60 minutes. I...

I have no idea, really, but I will go with the Wilkinson reference and say The Second Stagg Night of Doggie Wilkinson I love that line by Enwhistle!

I actually thought it was that one with Foggy talking about exercise, but the other quotes threw me off.

    Summerwineland for just one day

Option 1 - Follow That Bottle always seemed to epitomize the ultimate Summer Wine Day for me. Joining the guys on Enwhistle's truck (or it could have been the landrover for that matter) and taking part in something so foolish as to try to capture a bottle going down the creek. The only thing...

Here to Paternity I was trying to think about what Truly episode has Nora all flattered. I recall her being very soft-hearted towards Tom in his beginning. Perhaps her line was shortly after she met Tom in the parking lot. (It's been quite a while since I've seen it)
