Any advice to anyone watching the show for the very first time

As I was thinking of user names for the forum, I thought of the Shriveler as I really like that episode! Dodged a bullet on that one! I figured shriveler meant simply a look of disdain or arrogance meant to put someone in their place. Can you imagine...Hello everyone, I'm the Shriveler... . :P

Any advice to anyone watching the show for the very first time

Pick an episode you think is particularly funny and have them start with that. For me that would be the episode Greenfingers. Maybe fill them in a bit on who the characters are, but otherwise it will either be their cup of tea or it won't be.

    Truly's trilby

Barmpot: Thanks for answering my questions. With your years of experience selling hats, would you reccomend that I get a 59 cm Epsom if my head measures 23 and 1/4"? Of course I'll ask the sellers at Top Secret Hats, which is where I'm most likely going to buy from. Also, I know it's difficult...

    My new, red V5C

It's okay if you run out of money. You can just do what we here in the US do...borrow it! :P Or you can do what Wilma and Betty did on the Flintstones when they were out shopping...CHARGE IT!

    Truly's trilby

Barmpot: Tried to send you a message but I don't think it worked. Speaking of the Goodwood...have you ever seen one up close? If so, how would you compare it to the Epsom? I know it's wool felt and the Epsom is fur, but some wool felts are fairly nice. (I fear I've been jaded by the Fedora...

    Truly's trilby

Barmpot: I think it was most likely fur felt, what with the tight front pinch. Wool felts tend to not hold their shape as well. I agree, the Christy's Epsom looks spot on. To add to my collection, I've just ordered a Compo knit hat from Saturday Knit Fever on Etsy; she advertised the hat for...

    Truly's trilby

So, I'm a fan of hats. Newsboys, flat caps, fedoras. I came across this trilby by Christy's and wanted to see if anyone knew whether this was the type of trilby worn by the character Truly. It's a Christy's Espom: http://www.topsecrethats.com/Christys-Epsom-Fur-Felt-Trilby I guess it could...

    Hello from Flat Cap

I just ordered two Summer Wine DVD's from Amazon. Here all the episodes are the newer ones and I prefer the one's with Compo, Clegg and either Foggy or Seymour. Although Frank Thornton is a good actor, they were getting on in years then and the show seemed to be shifting to other characters, out...

    Foggy's Flat

I'll check out those episodes. It's a shame we never got to see the inside of Foggy's flat. With Compo's and Clegg's mirroring their personalities, I can only imagine the militaria and what not Foggy would have had sitting around his place. Best, Flat Cap

    Foggy's Flat

The Foggy's Flag thread in "Locations" got me to thinking...did we ever see the inside of Foggy's flat/apartment? I seem to recall the trio retrieving some golf clubs in an attic...but cannot recall whether that was the house that Foggy was renting. If we do see Foggy's flat, what episode was...

    Hello from Flat Cap

fjs1981: I grew up in Johnstown. Not an old textile mill town like Holmfirth but an old steel mill town. I tried to order the Compo cap from the member's Etsy site but I haven't heard anything from her as of yet. Maybe she stopped selling on Etsy. :-[ Barmpot: I think you are correct about...

    Hello from Flat Cap

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Maltrab, I will indeed check Ebay UK for some Cleggish flat caps. I found a business on Etsy that makes flat caps to order called Footloose Palouse. Price is reasonable. I sent them a pic. of Clegg's cap. Thing is, I think his cap was a greyish blue in...

    Hello from Flat Cap

Hello: I'm a Last of the Summer Wine fan living in the US...Pennsylvania to be exact. Was introduced to the show five years ago or so via my local PBS station. (Public Broadcasting for those outside the US.) Have watched a lot of the old episodes via You Tube and own two DVD's. Love the show...
