Who says the final few series aren't funny???

I suppose it is testament to the quality of the acting in Summer Wine that I eventually forgot I was watching a person acting a role, and started to get swept up in the mildly silly but, nevertheless , entertaining plot lines. I read online about some of the difficulties behind the scenes due to...

    Summer Wine TV Airings

Back in the 60's and 70's the phrases - Get Knotted, or Get Stuffed, were about as racy as I was permitted, anything more and I would be required never to go home again!

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

I was pleased to see that every now and then characters, who sadly had passed on in real life, were referred to. Nora has mentioned Wally, and Ivy has referenced Sid, it lends a nice touch, also when Truly and Clegg are setting out for Compos funeral, Pearl asks Clegg if he is OK , it shows a...

    Summer Wine TV Airings

The youth nowadays seem to have adapted a popular gesture from America, raising the middle finger, which I believe came from ancient Greece originally, I guess I do not like this appropriation of other nations habits.

    Summer Wine TV Airings

I am currently catching up on the early Foggy episodes, in the episode "The Kink In Foggy's Niblick" where Compo is disrupting the golfer ahead of Foggy, the golfer storms off and Foggy attempts to tell him he has left his golf balls behind. When Foggy says "Balls Sir" the golfer turns, and...

Thank you Roger, I missed the Blamire years when first screened, and the plot lines seem disjointed at times.

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

Have I missed an episode of the early summer wine?, Mr Wainwright the head librarian and the object of his desires are no longer at the library, proving at least attempted infidelity did not start with Howard and Marina!

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

Heavens!, I have just watched episode where Clegg wants to use the driving simulator when young lad is using it, He essentially threatens the lad who then runs off!, definitely not the Clegg we see later on, I think I prefer the more mellow Norman Clegg.

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

I am 4 episodes in on the Blamire years, the humour is different from the Foggy period, The laughs are there, but, some episodes almost have a harsher edge to them, perhaps if I had been on board from the pilot It would have been a smoother transition to when Michael Bates left. I notice Clegg...

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

I realise I am behind the times, but, I see season one of summer wine is now due to be screened on Drama channel on freeview in the UK, I can now get to see the "Blamire" years which are missing from my viewing history. I must admit the pilot episode was certainly different from the later...

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

Good morning to all, I have seen that the final episode of Summer Wine is being re-screened tonight, followed by the very first episode, which I have been lead to believe was a pilot episode written prior to the series being commissioned, Since I have seen neither, it feels bittersweet, However...

Who says the final few series aren't funny???

I have just reached the episode "Happy Camping" and it is apparent that Clegg and Truly were not able to appear as often as they once did , the scene in the field is only given away by the shadow of Clegg on Truly's shoulder which reveals it was shot on green screen. It does seem as if some...

    Gentle Comedies

Update re :- Beast, thanks to the response of the kind people on here, I obtained a copy of Beast, it is quite gentle, perhaps an acquired taste, but, compared to some "edgy" comedies out there, a lot more palatable , No spoilers, but the episode Pig is possibly the closest to saucy , I will...

    Goodbye Seymour, Hello Foggy

Since this thread title mentions Foggy, in the book to accompany the series he is Oliver, in the series he is referred to as Walter, but, I seem to remember Clegg and Compo finding a chest in his room with C.O.D on it, am I imagining this, if not, what was his first name?

    Gentle Comedies

I have seen a listing for a comedy show that ran for two series starring Alexander Armstrong called "Beast" the premise being he is a vet that does not like animals, can anyone enlighten me as to it being worth purchasing, apparently written by the same chap who gave us " Men behaving Badly"...

    Goodbye Seymour, Hello Foggy

Just looked it up, So, I am not alone!, many new sitcoms leave me cold, I do not have an issue with "edgy", but, not my scene.

    Goodbye Seymour, Hello Foggy

Another show I became fond of for the same reasons as The Good Life, and Summer Wine was "As time goes by" I believe it was the same writer as The Good Life, again a gentle slant on life, and wonderful portrayal from the actors involved - Heavens I am a big softy!
