    jokes bad or otherwise.

A giant termite strolls into the pub and asks loudly, "Is the bartender here?" (take a moment to let it sink in... I hear the folks from Glasgow might not get it until sometime next year... but that's just what I've heard, mind you... :)

    Rosetta Stone needed?

Thanks for the translation. So, when Pearl was stating that Howard had "mod cons", she was referring to Marina in his tent. Makes sense now - and funnier, too. I wonder what other local phrases were used that may have slipped by me unnoticed. For example, when Compo got hit on the head by Ivy...

    Rosetta Stone needed?

I didn't know quite where to post this. What does "Mod conned" (All Mod Conned") and "mod cons" (Pearl says it near the end of Howard and the Great Outdoors) mean? Being a Yank from the US West Coast, I have to ask.

    LOTSW lyrics

Anybody have the lyrics to the LOTSW theme song? My old ears just don't hear the words plainly or fast enough to write 'em down. The lyrics were sung only in two episodes I can recall - both were xmas episodes (Whoops and Getting Sam Home). Thanks, GrampaB

SUMMER WINE FACES IN OTHER PROGS

I like about animations because they allow the actors to be virtually ageless. The Wallace and Gromit shorts and movies are among my very favorites - great fun - mostly because Peter Sallis' voices the lead character. Since then I've seen or heard Peter in literally dozens of other places - far...

    Favorite Compo Skit

"Spot on" Chuffer. Did you ever notice how often Compo volunteers to do crazy things while at times he'll exclaim emphatically something like, for example, "I'm not going into the water" (spoken slowly for effect - just before he gets thrown into the water - or whatever else it is that he swears...

LOTSW scenes that didn't make the cut

Thanks for the education. As a yank, I'm not up to snuff concerning British honours. Does it seem to you that actors and others who face the camera tend to receive higher and more honours than do those who sit behind the camera? I don't recall if Roy Clarke ever appeared in front of one of his...

LOTSW scenes that didn't make the cut

Considering the lack of responses to this thread, I must say Roy Clarke's genius is obvious. LOTSW is an amazing collection of skits and stories. Mr. Clarke's accomplishment is akin to writing a 500 page novel every year for 36 years. Oh, and when you add in the other series he was writing at...
