    Doctor Who 50th anniversary today

No apologies necessary, I was just surprised and wondered if I had read you right. Hurt is slightly below the best known names I suppose, although in the film 1984 his billing was ahead of Richard Burton.

    Superstitions

The not washing clothes on New Years Day is to do with a superstition that you will wash away the life of a family member in the following year. My mother won't do any washing on new years day and I've heard her refer to this.

    Doctor Who 50th anniversary today

Did I read you right, you don't know who John Hurt is?! A serious quality actor who played the Elephant Man, Quentin Crisp in the Naked Civil Servant, Winston Smith in 1984, and was in the original Alien film (the alien popped out of his stomach to start it all off), to name just a few things...

    Doctor Who 50th anniversary today

As a child I was brought up on the early Doctors, my favorites being Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker and John Pertwee. A little like LOTSW when things changed it sometimes took a while to get use to the new Doctor. I remember the one off with Paul McGann and didn't think much of him at the time. He...

    A couple of Compo questions.

They did have a wonderful run of luck with the actors who took on the tall man role, Michael Bates, Brian Wilde, Michael Aldridge and Frank Thornton, as they all fit well. Of these, it took me a while to warm to Thornton as Truly, perhaps because by then Wilde had made his mark. On the other...

Frazer? He was in it at the end, I'm wondering if you meant Walker? They never really replaced him although did try for a while with the welsh actor Talfryn Thomas as a war journalist. Some comedy series would never be the same without the leading characters. Fawlty Towers without Basil/John...

    ranson malware email

Banks will never ask you to log in to your account from an email link, or for you to give them your log on, password details via an email. It really is as simple as that, the fraudsters rely on people trusting that it's genuine and not knowing. Never respond to any such emails and always mark...

    Doctor Who 50th anniversary today

I thought Hurt was quite good, although I was hoping that he might be more sinister and have more of a dark side, like the Master. Mind you, Paul McGann stole the show in the mini episode. He really looked the part. The next regeneration could have been back to a slightly older version of his...

    lucky nothing has been lost

There was also an attitude change about the nature of TV from the 70's onwards it would seem. From the BBC. "One of the reasons why TV programmes weren't recorded is that people really didn't think in that way. They didn't see television as a permanent medium. They saw it as something that...

News from Sids Cafe re new Filming

Does it still exist? I wonder how many pilots that never make it are actually kept? Possible that the original recording is long gone. Interesting story though from what I could find out. This was a comedy about a football manager called Over The Moon. The pilot was filmed back in 1980 and a...

    40 year anniversary??

Alan Bell does have a go at Jay Hunt and the BBC management for not given the new look LOTSW a chance, but he did put a lot of faith in Russ Abbot's Hobbo character to save the series. I can honestly say that if LOTSW was starting out today with the last trio, and minus Peter Sallis, I probably...

Well, that would be a practical answer and show that it had nothing to do at all with Health and Safety.

    Compo's clothes

Surely its the same with all tv companies? Why would they save anything from any TV series? The archive of saved things would be massive and cost a lot to preserve. I mean, wouldn't it be nice if they still had the set of Steptoe and Son, Dads Army or all those other historically important...

News from Sids Cafe re new Filming

Well, I wouldn't say dreadful, but there again there is a lot I probably wouldn't watch and wouldn't have an opinion about. I once knew someone who didn't like LOTSW, his opinion was based on watching about five minutes of an episode, he thought it was rubbish. People can be like that, judge...

News from Sids Cafe re new Filming

Was this ever a serious proposal? Ideas with a bit of film or pilots, most of which apparently are never seen or get to the tv screen, are submitted to the tv companies all the time. Surely a LOTSW spin off would require the agreement of those who originally brought it to the tv screens...

    A couple of Compo questions.

It was mentioned in A Merry Heatwave that Nora had a brother named Billy in Australia, and didn't she supposedly go over there to look after her older sister? It's the sort of thing Nora would do. The fact is that most of those that left Last of the Summer Wine, either because they went on to...

Roy Clarke and David Jason reunite for one off "Still Open All Hours" this Xmas

Re: Roy Clarke and David Jason reunite for one off "Still Open All Hours" this Xmas Interesting. They have kept the name Arkwright's although I did hear David Jason say in a recent interview it was to be called Granville's. Also noticed that the old Off License sign is still there. They had...

I would have thought that regardless of Health and Safety, road safety laws, seatbelts, insurance, etc, they would want to make sure the actors were safe considering the scene wouldn't have worked as well with stunt doubles.
