Did Nora have feelings for Compo?

When I watched "Some Enchanted Evening", I was under the impression the only reason Nora gave in to Compo's advances was because he smartened himself up. Then, when she arrived at his place, he was back to his old scruffy self, and that turned her off as she ran away.

Babs-can see why she wasnt around for long

I don't think she fit in well with the rest of the characters with her gothic, punk rock image. It just didn't gel well with the overall, laid-back theme of LOTSW.

Why no send-off for Nora & everyone, for that matter?

Re: Why no send-off for Nora & everyone, for that matter? I guess it was easier for Roy Clarke to say they moved away or ran off somewhere than to center an entire episode or two around a character's death. I'm reminded of Blamire's exit with a handwritten note he sent to Clegg in "The Man From...

1992 series on DVD in the US

I should be getting this DVD soon. The release date was the 10th of April. What can I look forward to in this volume? This wasn't the year with the stoneworm episode, was it?

    the interior of Compo's house

Other than "Some Enchanted Evening", anyone know of other episodes where we see detailed layouts of the inside of Compo's house? I know there were others where we see the main living space, but I'm referring to the entire house top to bottom.

Then I thank you for correcting me accordingly. I probably had him confused for another member of the trio.

Who Made A Bit Of A Splash In Wales Then?

Was it ever mentioned why Foggy visited that lady in Wales? I assumed she was an old friend who knew Foggy for years, and that he was consoling her after her husband's passing. However, I don't recall any exact reason mentioned in the episode's dialogue. I must admit the scenes by the duck pond...

    More funny lines

from the episode "Jubilee"... Compo -- "I wonder what they'll put on my headstone?" Foggy -- "Something heavy I hope." I might not be recalling the dialogue exactly, but I believe it went something like that. Then there was the episode where Compo said Sid's tea tasted like weasel pee, but I...

    Smoking in summer Wine

I could have sworn Foggy smoked in the episode "Who Made A Bit Of A Splash In Wales Then", but correct me if I'm wrong.

    Summer Wine and US geography

The NJ seaside towns of Ocean City, Wildwood, Brigantine or Atlantic City could be a good substitute for the UK seaside town of Scarborough, where the 2-parter was filmed of "The Great Boarding House Bathroom Caper" and "Cheering Up Gordon".

    Flower Power Cut

Your thoughts on this hilarious episode. One of the most well written episodes of the series in my humble opinion. When I first saw it, I thought Clegg really believed in the benefits of playing music to flowers, only to be suprised it was a scam all along to dupe Compo, Foggy and Sid out of a...

    Howards escape plan

In Which Howard Gets Double Booked Hilarious how he tried to maintain dates with Pearl and Marina at the same time without either of them any the wiser! If I remember correctly, didn't Truly suggest he fake getting a sprained ankle to cut short his date with Marina?

Thoughts on Ironing Day and Last Post And Pigeon

Kind of hard to watch seeing as how it was Compo's swan song. The show, although still good and well written, didn't quite have the same impact after his passing. Such was the pivotal nature of the character of Compo to the series as a whole.

Seems I angered a few people here...

...regarding a post I made about Bill Owen which has since been removed, although I fail to see how I could have done such a thing. Although I vehemently disagree with Bill's politics, I still have the utmost respect for him as an actor, so I was certainly NOT putting the man down in any...

    Summer Wine and US geography

I don't know if any type of American landscape could duplicate the rolling hills of Yorkshire. That geography was integral to the show's popularity. Here in New Jersey, particularly the southern portion of the state where I live, there's a huge area of land called the Pine Barrens. It's a...

    Surprise at Throstlenest

Regarding all the episodes already mentioned, I still find it difficult to watch them. Saying goodbye to such a classic character actor as Bill was difficult. Granted, I vehemently disagreed with his uber-leftist politics, but that aside, nobody could have played Compo quite like he did. That...

did anyone else think the Sid and Ivy rowing scenes were toned down aftera while

You couldn't help but feel sorry for Sid, what with all the unwarranted beatings he got from Ivy in the early days. It's like he spent his whole adult life being hen-pecked or beat about the head with a chip pan! Poor fellow!
