I stayed up to watch the opening ceremony, I was bored after 15 minutes, but thought, 'it can only get better!' I didn't. I was impressed with the lighting of the flame though, that was very clever.

That is very sad. I liked him too.

    Julie T Wallace (Mrs Avery)

I felt that too. She and Nora had something good starting, but Kathy Staff left for her 'gap year' and I suppose Lolly, had outlived her usefulness. A pity. I loved the episode where she couldn't tell her left from her right. I suffer from this syndrome. I hate being asked the way by a stranger...

    Saw Marina on Coronation Street!

She played that part well. But Marina did show through in places

which actor do you wished had done a guest appearance in lotsw

There are an awful lot of really good actors in Corrie, who have asked for parts in it. Bill Owen was in it a long time ago. Keith Clifford also. Nigel Havers, is currently playing a con man. And Kathy Staff was in it more than once. Arthur Lowe was one of the original cast. Anne Reid, who is in...

    Coastal Resort

I too love South Shields, George. But it is rather far to travel for me these days, so I would go down to Hayling Island, or Eastbourne.

    Julie T Wallace (Mrs Avery)

I often wonder just how difficult Alan Bell could be at times. He comes across as 'Mr Nice Guy', but Brian Wilde had problems with him as well.

which actor do you wished had done a guest appearance in lotsw

She is currently in Coronation Street. She has said this was her life's ambition.

    Later Characters

I never thought of it that way, I always thought she became more assertive later on after her mother past away, she may not have felt like Edie was watching over her shoulder and disapproving of her all the time :) I feel like that.

    Brian Wilde

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Was LOTSW the show with the most unseen characters?

I still watch Coronation Street, and also Emmerdale. I have watched them both from day one, so I will continue to do so. At least the episodes are all new, unlike the repeated episodes of Frost, Mid-Somer, Lewis, Foyle, etc. And how many times can we be expected to watch the CSIs. I love all of...

Another victory for Elf n Safety??

My husband, who had been working on a building site for about 50 years, was ordered to attend a seminar about health and safety. He was taught how to put up, and climb a ladder, Rhi. I will ask him for some hints for you!! At the end of the day it is all about 'Compo'.

I understand that Yorkshire and Lancashire are still fighting The War of the Roses!

    the sitcom "Miranda"

Re: the sitcom "Miranda" I must admit that I can take or leave the show 'Miranda'. I did like Patricia Hodge as her mum though, and Sally Phillips, as her posh friend, is a scream in this. Miranda Hart has said that she is a great fan of Eric Morecame, and copied the habit of making 'asides'...

Another victory for Elf n Safety??

We live in a narrow lane with six houses. We are at the top, about 700 yards away from a slightly wider lane/road, not suitable for putting bin out on to, it has no pavements. If they bring this rule in for us I may have a problem. Do I wait until I hear them coming (unlikely as I am very deaf)...

    FOTSW - September 1939

I always loved this series. It was so true to life, as it was then. Any of my aunts or uncles could have been part of the scene. There were no teenagers for a start. Girls and boys went from being a school child, to being an adult in a night. And they did have proper respect for other people and...

How did you get into Last of the Summer Wine

We watched the pilot. Then waited hopefully for a series, as it was so funny. The humour was not the slapstick 'in your face' stuff that we were used to, it sort of crept up on you. I was in my thirties then, with small children, who by the way have never been that bothered about it. I must have...

Favourite TV show which isnt Last of the Summer Wine

Rhi. Do you remember a show called 'Dog Food Dan and the Caenarfan Cowboy'? About two truck drivers who only met up in a motorway cafe on their way to and from Wales, but became friends.

did the knowledge that stunt doubles were used mar people's enjoyment of LOTSW

I never thought about it. The actors where not really young, even when it started so you expected it. I am not a person who is that observant when it comes to things like this so perhaps I am luckier than most.
