Couldn't find that one but here he is for John Bull. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9joewkjJ10

Finding other fame during or after Summer Wine

I forgot all about Ronald Lacey. I remember him in the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett, playing the two brothers in The Sign of Four episode.

Finding other fame during or after Summer Wine

With many well known actors appearing in their twilight years on LOSW, I'm going in the other direction in looking for cast or guests who became better known during or after their appearances on Summer Wine. Internationally, I would say Peter Sallis of course, with the Wallace and Gromit...

    drunk Wesley scenes

Blamire, Cleggy and Compo are feeling pretty good at the end of Pate and Chips. In Getting Same home, Sid and the boys seem a bit tipsy when they hatch the plan of taking Sam's body over to Lily Bless Her's house.

    Clumsy Cleggy

Sallis was, from everything I've heard a great stage actor and much like the great Walter Brennan and his giddy-up walk (he would put a stone in his shoe to help the effect), I always just assumed (for the most part) that Peter was just being in character with the type of nervous and...

    Magic Moments

Another favorite of mine is at the end of "Situations Vacant." Edie thinks something terrible has happened to Wesley and when he appears, covered in oil she starts yelling at him, only to hug him as a sign of relief that he's all right.

    Magic Moments

When Sid gives Ivy her black nightie for Boxing day, she looks so joyful, even if just for a second. Another scene with the couple where Sid has just hurt himself on Cleggs bike. Ivy has such a look of concern on her face, it's obvious how much she cares for the big lunkhead despite the...

    Favourite scene.

The scene in"The Funny Side of Christmas" where Compo's "orphans" are peering into Cleggy's window and the tall blonde starts bouncing her bosoms. :D The whole short is just fantastic.

    Was Compo an ale drinker?

I noticed in many episodes over the years that Compo's drink always seemed lighter in color than the others. Was this because it was disguised apple cider or something? As he was the only one who ever seemed to really drink rather than sip his brew I'm curious.

    The many costumes of smiler

I think he was dressed as a Jester in "The Glamour Of The Uniform" (Eli was in a Vampire Costume). Is that the same thing as a Noddy outfit?

    Favourite scene.

Got it. We have something similar hear in the states. There is AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Service) where service members shop for goods, groceries and general services (barber shop, auto repair shop, etc). Some of the money generated there is put into the MWR program (Morale, Welfare and...

    Favourite scene.

I listened three times and still didn't it get it right. :D I took me a while to figure out what a NAAFI was too. I spelled it six ways to Sunday before I finally figured out that it was an acronym.

    Favourite scene.

Love the barbershop scene in the first episode with Frank Middlemass. Smoking a cigarette, cutting hair and talking all at the same time. The end of Pate and Chips where they are on the steps of Compo's house sharing a last drink from the same can. Blamire toasting "the lady who managed the...

    Howdy!

I've been poking around the forum a bit and really enjoy what I've read so I figured I'd come in and introduce myself before making any more posts. I'm Don and I'm from Beautiful So Cal (Silver Lake, Los Angeles to be more specific). I first came across LOSW while flipping through channels to...

    Mistakes

Okay, I 'll try this again. :D I was watching PBS tonight and did see a mistake with the crew. It's the episode "Camera Shy." As Foggy is peering into the window of Auntie Wainwright's shop, you can see the camera man moving his head in the reflection.

    Mistakes

Being American, I guess the reference was never intended for me to understand anyway. ;D So, simple coincidence then with one of the main characters being named Cyril. I get it now.

    Mistakes

In the beginning of the Forked Lightning episode, when Clegg first slips his bike chain and is being laughed at, you can hear one of the onlookers saying "Nice one, Cyril." Clegg touches his cap in acknowledgement right after it's said. A small mistake but it grates me for some reason every...

    It wouldn't be allowed today

If I remember correctly, Sanford and son was actually based off of the British show, Steptoe and Son. All In The Family was based off of the British show, Till Death Us Do Part in which Norman Lear had bought the rights.

    Least Enjoyable Show 1

    I guess I'm a bit of a nutter because I thought "A Quiet Drink" was brilliant. 8)
