It could be. Here is Sylvia Stoker (the actress in the Woolen Mills episode) in a 1981 episode of Juliet Bravo compared to the character in the Changing Face of Rural Blamire.
I wrote a letter to Jane Freeman, Brian Wilde and Peter Sallis about 12 years ago. I just wanted them to know how much I loved the show. My in-laws (God rest their souls) were living with me at the time and they really enjoyed watching it every Friday night with me.
I was really surprised when...
I've got 1 through 22 on DVD now. The pilot is the only downloaded episode I have kept throughout. I've actually downloaded it a few times, trying to get the best quality. I have systematically got rid of my other downloads as I replaced them with the DVDs.
I've got the two First of the Summer...
I'm sure you're right about age being a big part of it. I thought Thora was great in the earlier series too. On the other hand, I thought that Frank Thornton was fantastic (as an actor) all the way til the end of the show's run in spite of his advanced years. I wasn't a big fan of the Truly era...

I think the earlier episodes hit a warm spot for me because they felt a bit more true to life.
Living in the States, The barber shops in the early 70s were always full of old smokers killing time, telling tales. I remember being sent to the five and dime to go buy penny candy on more than one...
