This Picture tells a story

You can see Kenneth Connor standing by the camera so he is in Hattie Jacques eyeline to read her lines to. The poor sound guy having to control that pole with the mic on, the clapper loader is kneeling down, the film camera is pretty big, the smartly dressed chap behind Kenneth Connor could be the director, and do those petrol pumps look as if they have just been placed there?

What's the bloke at the back doing holding up a board? It doesn't appear to have anything on it.

To stop extra natural light affecting shadows etc from the main filming lights
When I'm filming at home I usually have to cover the unseen part of the window with a blanket, otherwise odd shaped bits of light make some areas too bright... Often instead of a light, reflector boards are used - just big bits of board painted white - cheaper, easier, and if the sun goes behind a cloud everything goes less bright, instead of having bright spots of light.
