The real Yorkshire Bacon Sarnie?

It was Dick my brother and I were about 8 or 9 at the time it was the in thing the sandwich toaster, who could come up with the most unusual filling. I think we had peanut butter and banana once that was awful!!!

Never thought of a PB & banana toastie, but the untoasted sandwich is kind of standard fare. It's even usually on offer to adults among the picnic lunch options at HF Holidays' country houses.

The untoasted PB and banana sandwich was standard fare when my sister
and I were young in the Boston area. Thick slices of banana, sliced the
long way, sitting on chunky PB and commercial white bread. Yummm.

(Back in the 50's nobody we knew had a sandwich toaster or even
knew that one was.)

This is from Dick.....

A POEM TO WHICH I CAN RELATE
I remember the corned beef of my Childhood,
And the bread that we cut with a knife,
When the Children helped with the housework,
And the men went to work not the wife.
The cheese never needed a fridge,
And the bread was so crusty and hot,
The Children were seldom unhappy,
And the Wife was content with her lot.
I remember the milk from the bottle,
With the yummy cream on the top,
Our dinner came hot from the oven,
And not from a freezer; or shop.
The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn't need money for kicks,
Just a game with their friends in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks.
I remember the shop on the corner.
Where biscuits for pennies were sold
Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic?
Or is it....I'm just getting Old?
Bathing was done in a wash tub,
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.
I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore
Anorexia and diets weren't heard of
And we hadn't much choice what we wore.
Do you think that bruised our ego?
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.

I know how Howard feels now! You two are getting just like Nelly and the other Pearl!:46::cautious:

Hi Dick you like us nagging really, by the way have you done your house work today yet!!!

There are many variations in the UK streaky or back bacon smoked or unsmoked , bun, standard sliced bread , sliced bloomer loaf , barm or stottie cake , tomato or brown sauce, sometimes with mustard sometimes without , the current penchant for all things hot has seen a rise in the use of chilli sauce . It's difficult to tie it down hoping one of the members from Yorkshire will post a response.
Anyone care to elaborate on the qualities and joys of sliced bloomer loaf, barm or stottie cake?

A bloomer loaf is an oblong shaped uncut bread with a crusty outer shell and a soft white insides, if its cut its usually cut in the shop when asked.
A barm cake is what most of the UK call a cob or bap, it's a round burger bun type jobby.
A stottie cake is large flat round loaf with a soft outer and usually a soft stodgy inner.

So two oblong, uncut loaves would be a pair of bloomers? :36:

Smoked bacon never and since HP changed the recipe and moved production to Poland never again bread has to be cut a bacon sarnie is still the best snack and beats a big mac and kfc .
