This is a film not for the faint hearted but watching it despite the subject matter is highly life affirming.

Timothy Dalton along with Anthony play two young men on a cancer ward and their steadfast refusal to let it define them and their final days. Their Nurse Ratched of sorts is none other than Summer Wine's Mrs Avery! The film tells of their glorious misadventures and has wonderful turns from the likes of Geoffrey Palmer, Connie Booth and Sheila Hancock along the way.

The humour is bleak, gallows style frequently, and occasionally the language is on the colourful side but don't let this put you off. Incredibly the DVD for this is long out of print and may have been of dubious Australian origin in the first place however vhs fans can rejoice in that it does exist this way. It's also available in it's entirety on a well known video sharing platform and is well worth a sometimes uncomfortable but always rewarding watch.

PS the Hawk of the title has nothing to do with Billy Hardcastle! ;)
